Battery does not charge on my AE92

battery led was red from a couple of days then last night finally the car stopped while it was running...the battery was gone...so today I went back to pick it up with another half/charged battery and it started but after 15 minutes the battery led was red again...so it was not the battery that was damaged, I am thinking about the alternator? But why the car stopped while it was running? Actually not suddenly, it was going slower and slower and after switching the lights off I could ride for 5 more minutes before complete death...any clue?

Alternator......you should be able to drive without a battery. Probably an easy fix. Dunno if you can remove the alternator without removing other stuff.

Chek contacts ob back of a alternator.
Pay atention on jack with 3 wires.
Yesterday, I'll rebuild my alternator, and starter.

ALTERNATOR :-) first check the fuses common problem had it on my AE86

by the way aico you cannot drive without battery,

your Electronic injection EATS enery. You can simply check if the alternator is ok by getting a Volt meter and while running engine check the battery it should be around 14V caus the charge is 14V the battery should be 12 normally. or

turn on lights and greater lights (dunno whats called)
then give alot of gas if the lights come up more (more light or brighter) than the alternator works. if the light goes on why do you keep on driving??????????????????????

check the plug on the back of the alternator and check the fuses first then Volt meter. If nothing comes out you have to remove the alternator unscrew it from the back and replace the .....chardustblocks???? dunno whats called in english there are 2 scraping alongst the Plus charge stick in the alternator if needed with that i can send pictures

So to sum things up in better english ( I could understand what you meant to say robo, but maybe others cant.)

1. Check connectors on alternator & battery
2. Check fuses
3. Measure voltage across the battery terminals, should be above 14v with engine running.
4. If there is only 11 or 12 volts while running, check to see if drive belt is on tight.
If the drivebelt is in order, and all connectors are in order but it doesnt charge, then you need to have the alternator checked.

In the best case you only have to replace the brushes (carbon blocks), if it is blackened on the inside you need to have it rebuilt or get a different one.

You can ALWAYS drive without a battery. If you couldn't the car would simply stop working after an xx hour drive.

That's not true...ever tried taking of the battery clamps while the car is running..try it and see what happens.

Aico shut up robobattery exp :-) no i had so much shit with battery and alternator i know you cannot drive without one.
