And it failed MOT. I had the following points:
- Ball joint left front failed - Top mount was broken (the whole strut came out because the rubber let loose due to rust) - The four links lower mounts where dented (because the car is lowerd I hit it when driving onto the bridge) - 2 holes in my chassis... ( now I really missed these) - Left rear brake caliper leaking So I changed the ball joint up front. I repaired the mounting point of the lower four link. (simply hit the corner back) Changed the top mount which was fucked. (will be removed anyway) I got a spare caliper standing by to be mounted. And started to look for holes. As the whole chassis was welded I was very curious on what I had missed. The result was somewhat shocking for me. I don't have pictures from the other side but thats fixed already. So, after that small set back on that. I should be ready for MOT and pass around tuesday or wednesday. Cleared all the rust fixed everything. Car is perfect except my exhaust fumes. The readings where off the chart. So high that the measuredevice couldn't count higher.
In the Netherlands we are allowed to have 4.5% CO with our exhaust fumes. I am running over 10% (the machine can't give the readings above 10%) I tried the following: - Idle gas valve (the thingy next to the igniter) - Idle air - Ignition (retarded it a bit) Nothing got the measurement down. (no the device is not broken) For some wierd reason I don't see blue smoke (oil burning) in my exhaust so can't really think its that. Ivan141 told me maybe one of the sensors is faulty. Does anyone have an idea? check your air temp sensor and for leaks in the MAP system.. I guess your engine is running fine - no CAT EGR or the like fitted... and do you have the correct ECU fitted for the engine?

I thought the rules regarding oldtimers where even more subtle? Or more easy going...
There are garages that dont have the measurements so you can get it through easily... had the same problem when I had an Impreza -DWG- Drift Wolf Gaming |

You might get it passed the MOT at a garage that hasnt got test equipment, but after a few fails it might be an interesting subject for a retest and then your still screwed. Besides, it is in Lennerts best interest to have the car running decent mixtures, instead of pig-rich as it is at the moment.
It might be a temp sensor, or a problem with the map sensor (or the vacuum piping to it), but taking the buildup of the car in regard, I wouldnt scratch wrong ECU of the list just yet. Would start by just pulling the codes from the ECU with the diagnostic connector.. it might just contain usefull info for a change FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |
