This is no different then a complete S13 swap. There is no difference between the S13 and AE86 BC racing shocks besides the part that screws onto the bottom. You still need all the stuff mentioned in Doktors post and you get the added benefit of wonky geometry and BC shocks valved for a 200kg heavier car.

Plus your rear brakes will burn out by the time the S13 discs even heats up properly, those rear brakes are already having enough trouble with OEM brakes up front..

You`re better off converting to OEM AE86 Front discs in the rear w/a set of AE86 front calipers (Custom brackets), then use trackday-type pads.

A friend of mine, in the pitstop at Gatebil Rudskogen some years ago (2009 I think) couldnt even count the number of pistons per caliper in a aftermarket brake system on a Audi S2, yet he out-braked it into both high and low speed corners on the track at full blast, as it were, using vented AE86 discs w/trackday pads all around+crappy tires (He did some drifting too) on his 4age`d ke70

I have a huge problem with this ^^^ suggestion !!!

Factory engineers build the OEM braking system with brakes calculated
to safely control the car under all intended usage conditions. So if it is a
fast sports car, it will have better brakes than a family runabout.

In general, the front brakes will be more powerful, to take account of
the "weight transfer" onto the front wheels during braking. The brakes
will be calculated to lock the fronts (ABS off) before the rears, as it is
considered that understeer is preferable to oversteer under lockup.

The front/rear braking bias is fundamental to safety and maximum
braking performance. Changing the bias by increasing the size of the
rear discs without making a proportionate increase in the front, will upset
the braking balance, cause premature rear wheel lockup, and make your
car unsafe.

And if you say... "I can fix that with an adjustable proportioning valve...",
then I would have to ask why you put the larger discs on the rear, as you
have just negated any possible gain !! Factory engineers are not idiots.
They have a responsibility to make safe cars. If you want better braking
because you have improved the performance of your car, do it properly.

Upgrade both front and rear by taking the brakes from a higher
performance version, or upgrade the fronts with correctly selected
components from a known supplier such as Wilwood.

From what I`ve gathered, stock brakes are good for up to 350hp in the AE86 using ventilated discs and trackday pads, the brake force distribution lay in the brake master cylinder.


My friend likes to do things right, all he ever had a problem with was fried (distorted) rear discs (non ventilated), after he went over to vented front discs in the rear that problem disappeared and the brake BIAS remained the same due to same brake fluid flow from master cylinder to rear calipers.

Wilwood/AP is too hardcore for these little cars, and theyre not only expensive to buy, but also expensive to maintain and not easy to set up, you`d need an adjustable brake pedal box w/custom cylinder, Girling for example, and these are not easy to adjust perfectly either, plus you`d get no vacuum assist from the brake booster (Unless you were hoping that a stock master cylinder would work...) so you`ll have different braking for each push on the brake pedal, and constantly having to adjust the BIAS when changing discs/pads, bleeding the system, testing, adjusting, and shim the brake discs so that they are alligned with the axles and the calipers, it`s a constant battle of working it out and it`s a complete PITA

Speaking from experience, I`d be more than happy with a vented OEM setup all around.


The question imho is, what kind of driving is the OP wanting to do?
