Cylinder head - TORX bolts - what size?
Today i've starting ripping my engine appart and i've removed the camshafts to discover torx bolts. So since i dont have the apropriate wrench/part for it. So im wondering what size it is? so i can go buy one. And do i need a beefy one, are the forces big? I dont waste my money on parts that will break naturally
thanks! |

It is incredible just how hard it is to find that piece of equipment here. I have been to all of the biggest hardware stores in slovenia and nothing. Luckily there was a shop who has theese. So if such parts are ahrd to find, how can i get my hands on even more specialised tools. How do you people get by? where do you get your "special tools"? (mostly engine-related)

Most of the shops that sells aftermarket car parts have these special tools here in Denmark. Did you receive the centercap ?

That socket is not special in any way.. a lot of ratchet kits come with 12-point sockets..especially cheaper ones since the 12-points have a tendency of killing bolts sooner than proper 6-sided sockets. You dont even need a deep socket to get to the headbolts, just use an extension bar. I will add that a set of deep sockets is a nice thing to have.

well maybe not deep, but they definatelly have to be narrow to fit between the head castings. I have a VEEERY old set of 12-points, from my father/grandfather.. they are very robust and strong. But they just dont make them that way anymore.. cheap sets are good only for "hobby-use", and the good ones cost alot of money.. but the 12-points are just very hard to find here, let alone some really "special" tools.

Actually... with superior tool companies smaller does NOT mean poorer. Companies like Snap-on, MAC, and a few others have superior engineering. For instance... I have gearless ratchets... they work on a cam principle! That means even 3 degrees of arc and I can tighten/loosen bolts!!! Dan - You can | .... OR you can ask for help!!! I know it doesnt, i just said that you cant get decent tools for the normal price anymore (here). My grandfather bought this set of 12-points back in the days for normal money - and that was probably the only set availible back then here - but it is much much better than any set i've seen in our stores now (excluding the hi-priced hi-performance tools).
