Tire size for 13x8?
Hey guys,

Im intending to buy a set of compomotive's CXRs in 13x8" and Im seriously confused with the tire size I should use. I notied that the guys from MCNSport said something about using 185/60, but Im affraid it will be way too small and tend to loose grip on the front fast because of the streched tire. I was thinking more about 195s on front, but I couldnt find any good rubber in this sizing (everything had sidewalls around /45).

On the other hand, Id like to stay as narrow as possible on the rear, because I like to set up my car a little bit loosely. I was advised to go for 205s if I want grip, but Im affraid it will kill the power too much on the rear (my 4AG is dead stock with no LSD).

Please people, I need help because I have no idea what to do. Anyone has any experience with this sizing? It seems that the best thing to do would be to go for some 205s on the front and 185s on the rear, but Im not sure if it wouldnt upset the balance too much. So far Im guessing that 185/70 allaround is the way the go, but Im not sure how will it handle on those 8" rims.

Heres some basic info about the car: 2door, new longstroke koni yellows (set up on 1/4), decent lowering springs, stock LSD.

Thanks everyone!!

there's a tyre size calculator on this page http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg2.html covers loads of info about tires in general - good read

185/70 would be too big - I run 185/55 but that is on 14"

I'd try 185/60R13 allround - Federal tires do theire 595s in this size, they should give you plenty of grip on the front. And still remain a bit loose on the rear with properweightshifting and a bit more tirepressure Wink

185-60 will be 1" or 2.5cm to short. About 1.26cm more wheelgap and at the same time 1.26cm less clearence to the oil pan.

New diff ratio will be close to 4.5:1 instead of 4.3.

Should be different to drive for sure..Might be fun too if you don't need the ground clearance. The car is lowered without changing geometry. At the track, if you wish to go there and drive a decent pace, the tires will overheat in just a few laps..thats a drawback.
Totally agree on staying at 185 wide tires. Much more fun then even 195 (though not faster).

A wheel to steer the front of the car
A pedal to steer the rear

There is the tire weight too. the smaler it is and the lighter it will be.

I have 175/70/13 on my hachi on 13x8 wheels.

But if i'll hade the money i'll go for 185/65 ou 60/13 Wink
It will be enouth for grip without killing the power
Just don't set you'r rear suspention too hard to have a good traction Wink

I've 215/50 all round on 8jj front and 10jj rears.
cheap bridge my01
widest tyres for 13 inch
and enough grip on the front

but I'm started with 175/70 on the front and it was terrible.
because of cheap tyres.
if you want big profile tyres (60-70) you need to go with good tyres with hard side, because usual tyres will be too soft.
