After some reading...

Doing this is not the smartest move.....

Better think of another one! Thumbs up!

If you want something that run properly you definitly need a aftermarket ECU .

I will give you the same advise as I give to my friend Stephane:
-Megasquirt DIYPNP + Tunerstudio (software)
-a good AFR gauge (I personnaly love the Innovate MTX-L)
-ITB (AE101, AE111, Jenvey, SK, etc...) + appropriate intake manifold / adapter.
-some good velocity stacks
-air filter socks (or better a good air box with a filter)
-vaccum hoses + collector (mostly for the mastervac if you don't want to remove it)

And that's it !

After few hours of road tuning: (he had never touched and ECU map before)

Yes... just because it can be done, doesn't mean that it is a good idea

Really thought it was easier....

And the big problem is not the parts, or ecu or everything else...

It's all the money i will spend on something that with the same money i could do alot better! Like a blacktop itself...

DIYPNP: ~460€ (425$+40$ for shipping + tax)
AE101 ITB: you can find some for less than 200€
T3 adapter: ~270€
Vaccum collector: ~40€
hoses: few €
Total cost: ~1000€

Velocity stacks and air filter socks <- you will need them too if you swap a 20v.

So IF you can have a blacktop
+ a water relocation kit (T3 = 690$ + shipping ...)
+ a distributor relocation kit (the SP-TEC kit is 600€ + shipping from japan...)
For less than 1000€, YES it doesn't worth to modify your 16v.

If you look carefully at the pros and cons, I'm not sure a blacktop really worth it except if you can find a bargain with all the job already done !

By the way the swap isn't that simple, the wiring itself is a nightmare if you have to do it yourself...

PS: MTX-L cost 180€ delivered and for me an AFR gauge it's a "must have" whatever engine you have.

Hi mates

I heard a few days ago that: with the stock 16v [u:17ccade8ac]MAP[/u:17ccade8ac] big port + 20v BT ITBs + Bigger injectors you can get +-15hp more, with standard ECU (MAP)

...is this true?? i always thought we need other ECU.

If it ran at all, it would be running richer than Bill Gates !!!! If you
were lucky... REAL lucky... you might get it to make some power at
>7000 rpm, but otherwise it would be a dog to drive Sad

you missed a few important things Wink

and as mentioned before, despite the fact that ITBs can be fitted to the engine they WILL reduce driveability (loss of torque below 4500rpm) without other mods. What I recommend to my friend is - ignore the bling factor of ITBs unless your pushing out at least 160hp and rather go for a nice header - a good one will give you something in return performance wise + street cred if in need.
