Surreptitious.....
Let me introduce to you my new ride.........Surreptitious
Surreptitious - 1)Marked by quiet and caution and secrecy, 2) A lurking prowler, 3) Conducted with or marked by hidden aims or methods She isn't much YET.... and I know she isn't an AE86.... but plans are rather extensive..... Above is a 1983 AE72.... Yep... that 7 series Corolla has rack and pinion steering... manual rack and pinion steering. One other thing... This AE72 is... for all intentions... an AE86 from underneath the car! It uses ALL AE86 suspension... EVEN the upper from strut mounts. Soon to be transplanted... one extraordinary blueprinted 4AGE...... Running complete engine management with sequential injection, and wasted spark ignition. For rather extensive engine build info - http://www.hachiroku.net/forums/showthread.php?t=10947 *IF* it ever gets finished**... the AZ6 from the Miata.... ** - otherwise a T50 I have a complete 6.7 diff with rear disc brakes.... This project has just begun... I have most of the "ingredients"... now its just mixing them all just right! "Ingredients" so far to add.... One set TRD high density rubber bushings, one set HTS112 shocks, disc brakes all around I'll continue to add more here as things go along..... Dan - You can | .... OR you can ask for help!!! Well winter has mostly passed here in the northwest USA...
Snowyest December on record here. Digging her out so she isn't so cold......... (wifes Altezza Gita / IS300 SportCross in the background) Pull off the cover.... Push her clear of fall and winters debris........ Get her all nice and comfy, and nestled as I prepare to start this project in earnest Over the winter I was doing some smaller projects in anticipation of this build..... 1) TRD bushings... installed CORRECTLY! 2) New springs from Fensport - custom rates 5.2kg/mm in front, with a 3.5kg/mm rear rate. The springs are designed to ride about 20mm down in the front, with a 10mm rear drop, offering a slight nose down attitude the springs on the left are for Surreptitous, the springs on the right are for my friend, they are to TRD rally specs Dan - You can | .... If you look real carefully at the next photo you'll see a broken heater core nipple... broken out from the heater core.......
this broke because Dan was STUPID.... to get the car onto the dolly to tow it home... I had to find a way to hold the transmission up... I ziptied the transmission to the heater core pipe THINKING(or lack there of......) I would remove it once it was on the dolly.... well I forgot... and it was ziptied ALL winter... Here is what is involved in removing the heater core........... Dan - You can | .... OR you can ask for help!!! OST Porting service - http://hachiroku.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19991 |

Now.... with the dash out.... and all exposed... Its time I decide how deep this project will get. As of now... the OEM AE71 dash, and wiring will be replaced. Likely with AE86 wiring.
Why replace it?? Below is the dash from my AE71.... The tack only goes to 8k (Surreptitous is getting my new engine... redline@ about 8500). The speedo is a joke... 85 mph. I live very close to Portland International raceway(2 mile road type track) I'll be burying the speedo at least twice a lap... might as well get something more competent to the drivetrain.... Above is a zenki(early type) AE86 dash cluster from the USA. It has been modified with a tach from the FX16 model(AE82 coupe). This will give me the speedo, and the tach that the new car will require. Dan - You can | .... OR you can ask for help!!! OST Porting service - http://hachiroku.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19991 |

The last bit accomplished over the winter was sorting out the cooling system. The AE71 may be unique, the radiator support is DIFFERENT depending on transmission!!!!
There are two different radiators for the AE71, a single row for manual transmission models, and a dual row for automatic equipped models. The raditors mount completely differently! And the raditor supports on either side are different too! The manual radiator has top clamps similar to the AE86, while the automatic cars radiator mounts in two rubber isolators. The reason I wanted the dual row was for maximum cooling. While I was at the salvage yard(junkyard) sorting out the radiator, I stumbled across a radiator under a SAAB... it had a nifty steel shroud... and low and behold.... .... it only needs a bit of fabricating to be almost a "stock" fit! I believe the radiator was from the SAAB, although I can't prove it...(although the electrical connector DOES look like a SAAB part!) what is additionally exciting... the motor on that 11 blade fan..... is TOYOTA!
