I'm not sure that the tacho wire does go into the footwell... it runs into
the dash loom via the big squarish plug high on the firewall behind the
engine. It's wire # 13 in the above diagram.

Since you won't be using the original tacho feed wire from the igniter,
cut that wire on the engine side of the plug, and extend it along the line
of the engine loom and down into the footwell.
