Under bucket shims
I've managed to find a set of cam followers that are of the under bucket type, unfortunately the chap selling them does not have any shims Huh
Can anyone tell me how the shims actually fit into the buckets ?
Thanks

Hmm...most guys use the yaris buckets, which are machined to a certain thickness (meaning: no shims). If you have these, you should see a little protrusion on the inside of the shim where it contacts the valve stem.
Havent seen any actual shim-under-bucket type valve lifters on the forum in all my years here.

R.hellenbrand uses them. And so will I in my new head. Problem is you need to buy the cams and then measure it with the standard shims. After that buy 2 or 3 yaris buckets. Check the size and then order the rest according to the measurement.

lols, sounds confusing huh? they are talking about the shim less bucket for the yaris motor. i think they confused the poor guy.

well for the original poster of this post, you might want to hit up the manufacturer of the bucket kit ie...toda. if its a toda kit contact them. gl.

Think of thems as nipples but on the inside!!.
From what I gather you need to know the tollerances you need & then order the buckets.

1SZ Toyota 4 cylinder engine uses valve buckets of a one piece design. Each bucket is machined to a specific thickness. This allows a single piece (NO bucket AND shim), that is considerably lighter then the stock units. These lifters(one piece buckets) are the same diameter as the 4AG bucket, so they fit perfectly.

There is a alleged problem with using 1SZ buckets... extreme camshafts may cause them to distort.... I've heard of this.... but as of yet failed to see any.

When I was working for Cyberauto... we recommend a set of 8 of the smallest buckets to use for sizing, and then once you had your sizes verified, you'd order the 16 you would need.
