V8 build!
I just picked up a 97 sr5 coupe, been sitting and planning the direction to take the car.. of course the major concern bieng the powerplant. I considered the norms the 4age,16v and 20v, then was almost certain i was going to go with a sr20det. Im looking for big numbers. I got to looking for a v8 swap and only one i could find was the 4.0 lexus v8 swap. Not my ballpark i used to be old school muscle cars. So im thinking a ford 302, or a chevy 305 or 350. So anybody with some info that could help or anything it would be much appreciated and other than that.. ill be shure to keep this build updated.

I guess these all three are "big, heavy, American, probably cast-iron and not to sophisticated engines"...
Not to sure how many European people (outside the small muscle car scene) can tell the differences between these engines. |

True but one reason I posted it here is the only corolla I was able to find on the internet with a American V8 swap was a european car, coudlnt find any more info on it though. Im thinking the Ford 302 with a 5 speed, Its the smallest of them all and would fit the probally the best. I have one that puts out 400hp and 440ft lbs torque. With the corolla's light weight, should make for a quick car.

3UZ would be pretty cool a little on the expensive side, couldn't find any very cheap. Ahh the more I keep looking into things the more I just cant figure out exactly what swap I want to do lol. so many options, turbo 4age, sr18det,sr20det, what about some of the inline 6's old supra motors and such.. ahh lol It's gonna take 2 months outta my project time just to figure out a plan

all is possible but you must ask yourself, want you keep the spirit of the car or are you only in hunt for big hp numbers, inline6 destroy the balance, i would go for 4litre alumium v8, 1uz or the mentioned rover engine, or some of the 4,4v8 from bmw, i must say i like muscle cars and v8 engines so if i wanted to make fast, reliable and good handled car with response then:
1.4age20v swap 2.3sge beams/f20c swap 3.Rover/Bmw V8 swap only figure out you final hp/nm numbers the 302ford is one of the smallest american V8 but still to heavy i think, would find another body for this: s13 silvia, carina, old celica supra etc... i like the idea http://www.86ers.org All the hachies that Daytona can only dream about. |
