What brand of street shocks do you have?
this suspension trivia for an ae will never end.. how can i deside on anything really. on one hand i never had a sporty suspension on my hachi, which didnt even begin to satisfy my needs, so te reasonable upgrade would be something as you suggested mux, but on the other hand, i dont want to spend money on something that would soon turn out to be "not enough". so better to add some more to the pitch and have a coilover setup.. or not. i dont know. though i do like it stiff, just not bouncy Big Grin and to add to that, i suspect going imediately on harsh springs and coilovers and rcas and all that camber and stuff, would be too advanced for me.

Sounds about right for a drift/track car. Remember I'm trying to help Apolan out here aswell and from what I gather he wants something thats alot more streetable. Still its all up to personal taste, I know people who've got 8kg F/7kf R setups with stiff shocks and call it perfect for their daily driver. And in deed, in this country the roads are of such quality that aslong as you stick to tarmac, your only enemy is those damned speed bumps they put in everywhere.

But once the roads get of lower quality, you just don't want to go to those types of springs if you want some streetability left.

As for your KONI suggestions. So far I've only looked into using the AE92 KONIs for the front which also are topadjustable. I've heard about the MR2s. There are some other options, CircuitFreak had shortstroke KONIs that where gasfilled on his car for awhile, I haven't got a clue where they came from.
I don't have any sensible opinion about which one is the best choice, I do know that in the end, you can have them revalved anyways so if you want you can make any KONI shock to the specifications you wish. Can be expensive though.
Zax here on the forum ran AE92 KONIs with his shortstroke conversion combined with 8kg springs and was very pleased with the result.

For the rear, I heard about the Camaro option but I also heard some changes are needed because the Camaro shocks don't fit directly onto the hachi's rear axle. But they indeed are supposed to be the right lenght for short stroke.
I still use my AE86 (don't know the type number, its on the board somewhere) rear shocks which aren't short stroke. They function just fine, you don't really have the stroking problems that you have at the front as there is plenty of room in the rear. The only problem is that when the car comes off the ground, the springs come loose and that is an MOT failure over here. So before the end of summer I'll have to replace them with something with a shorter stroke.

Owh and KONIs are easily obtainable here, most dealerships sell them. Biggest problem is that they don't know much about these older cars and that if they order directly from the factory, you tent to pay extra high prices. Look around on ebay and such and you can often find a good deal on KONIs from a surplus stock (though I got bitten once so I'm a little more carefull now).

on that setup mux you would be referring to me ???

T3 now sells a spacer that you don't need to cut your struts of. I am thinking of using my trd springs with that and a shortstroke koni!

So you get all of the negative aspects of shortstrokes, but none of the benefit. Imho just throwing away good money..

Can someone explain to me why on earth you would want to run shortstrokes with these spacers?

A wheel to steer the front of the car
A pedal to steer the rear

You and CircuitFreak are excelent examples in this as both of you have 8kg front 7ish in the rear. If I remember correctly you don't mind at all and drive up and down to work with it with only your passengers complaining.
CircuitFreak on the other hand does not like leaving the tarmac at all. He's very happy with the setup on circuit and for drifting, but doesn't want to do any long distance driving or driving on rough roads if I understand him correctly.

In the end its all up to what you find important, what you can take, and what sortof roads are around you. We live in a pretty good country when it comes to road quality so..

Don't forget that with the T3 solution you have 4CM of metal more sticking upwards measured from the underside of your spring meaning there is less distance before you hit your bumpstops. Whether this is a problem again depends on the amount of lowering. If I look at my setup right now, if I hadn't cut the 4CM out there wouldn't be much room left before I would hit the bumpstops.. (keeping in mind I also cut the bumpstops themselves!)

I live in the capital city of slovenia, and this is where i do most of my driving around. everything is really close as ljubljana is not such a big city. And roads here are pretty decent. Even the "interstates" are okay. Its when you go to our "mountain/hillside" roads its a bit less nice. I dont like a coazy smooth ride. i like it stiff and comapct. Just dont wanna fall of some hill-road when going for more spirited driving, because my wheels would bounce all overe the place on some bumps. So i would like a stable ride on such roads. So i will really look into progressive springs. I wonder what setup was Takumi running on his ae Big Grin

Your correct mux.
Long rides are bad for your neck. :wink:
And on some roads the wheels get loose from the ground becouse of the bumps. (mostly the back)
But on good roads it drives superb. Thumbs up!

I use:
Tokico HTS Short Stoke Adjustable Shocks: front/back
B-tune swift springs. front - 8kg. back - 7kg.
