A guy on german ebay sells this AE engines but I don´t know if they are trash oder realy good work. So I´ll ask the experts!

Type: 4A-GE
The hole engine is rebuild. The basic and conrod bearings are brand new. The forging pistons are from Wiseco (286g) and also new! The bore has a diameter of 82mm. The compaction is 11,8:1 in normal trim and 12,3:1 with a 0,5mm headgasket. The crank is very fine balanced and polished up. The piston pins are mounted afloat. He also instaled a better oil pump and affirmed that the engine makes easy up tp 11.000upm!

The price for this block is about 2.300€. What do you think...?

The engine can be worth 0 euros or 2300 Euros, everything depends on the skills of the person who put it together. And believe me, to get a 12,3 compression engine running at 11.000rpm takes enormous amounts of carefull attention, measuring, balancing, machining etc. Aka a fully equipped professional workshop.
I wouldn't spend a single dime on an engine that wasn't assembled by someone who already has a good reputation in building racing engines. So find out if that is the case, confirm and only then make a decision.

I know the seller (not personally). His name ist Karsten Sekel... he is just about the best guy in germany to build 4age. He runs rally with his ae86 very secsessfull... he is running 3rd places in the most rallys against evos integrales and all the other "big boys" around... he really knows his stuff!!!!!

Now seriously - they look GOOD. I can't imagine why the price is 2300EU, maybe he offers good cams, porting, aftermarket ECU and tunning service as complete package ? I will not pay 2300 for such bottom end + untouched head.

I have a question... why do you need/want an 11k rpm engine? How will it work in your application?

In my humble opinion... for 2300 euros... you should get a long block(long block = finished assembled block, crank, rods, pistons, head, valves, springs)

oldeskewltoy we will not rev it to 11k RPM. It's just a benchmark - that means you can rev it 8500-9000 without risk.

you could make it run 11k but if you would do that for hours the engine will degrate very fast. If you want to run 11k you should take a 20v silvertop where the connecting rods are already better build etc.

On the rest a 11k rpm engine will be very nervous to drive so I would not go any higher as Jamie says and make the most of the engine upto a 9k mark.
