I think I have a good guess

[spoiler:4ce5eba085]My guess is, the 7 second lead serves 2 purposes. 1, it will make god hand believe he's already won, so he'll play more and wear his car out more, with the heave R34 the tires and brakes will wear down much quicker just like with the R32 in the second race of stage 1. 2. I think Ryousuke knows perfectly how much distance it will take Keisuki to catch up on god hand to make up for the 7 seconds distance. At the point Keisuki will meet up with god hand again, that will also be the point he can best attack and pass. If he's to early, god hand will find a way to block, if he's to late the opertunity will have passed. It'll be interesting to see if I guessed it right or totally wrong) [/spoiler:4ce5eba085]

From what I read the purpose is idd what you say. Keisuke is making up the difference up to 4 seconds at the end of chapter 30 in the manga. Then there is a cliffhanger. But from what I read Keisuke is saving tires to make gutter attacks.

mux the one in the R34 gtr (Hoshino Kouzou) is nicknamed "god foot" not "god arm". I think this is important; if you can remember Keisuke has been "brushing up" on his footwork and throttle control. This might be relavent i dunno. Also i think "god arm" will have something to do with Takumi's final "revelation/ilummination".

I just truthlly hope S.S. is not playing the same old cards as he was in Stage 1 and 2. (Nakazatos heavy gtr, lanevo's traction, endurance, rainy battle...) It would be a shame to see this things all over again. [spoiler]I know the race of Takumi will have a very disappointing end then, however there is some unusual comment by Ryosuke there.

I just realized: God Foot wants to end the battle in the first round. Keisuke only needs to catch up and go for the second run. He will then lead and have the advantage since his RX7 is tuned for mountainclimbing because he is always doing the climbs. Then he will show his advantage and speed away from the R34 because the first part is a hillclimb. The reason for the 7 second gap would be obvious then: to not show the potential of the RX7[/spoiler]

banpei: the FD should have the advantage on the downhill, as beeing lighter and better handling than the GTR. dunno, we'll see. I still think "the god foot" nickname has some relevance to deciding this battle.

man i cant wait for 21.. just as this is going i cannot see this stage ending in less than 5, 6 or so episodes.. i think it'll take at least 2 or 3 to decide this two battles.. and than (im speculating) the grand finale w/ Chief of Todou Racing School.. perhaps there will be an NSX involved.. that would be "sugoi!"
