Which threadsize to use for the vdo oil temp sensor?
Hello,
This friday i am going to buy some vdo meters for the ae86 and the sensors =>oil temp gauge =>water temp gauge =>volt gauge I found an interesting topic here on the forum thats says you can use But there is a drain valve for the water, just 2cm toward the cabin, and there is a plug in the oilpump 2cm infront of the pressuresensor, that can be used for oil temp,it´s directly in the oilflow into the engine from the pickup. Now there are alot of different sensors with thread that can be bought and i dont know which ones i need to get :s sensors with different thread Anyone who knows which one i need to buy? |

Which threadsize to use for the vdo oil temp sensor?
water drain plug => 1/4 BSPT
oil pressure sensor = 1/8 BSPT For the oil pump I can't tell right now but I'm pretty sure it's a 3/8 BSPT. Be careful: NPT = National pipe thread -> U.S. standard BSPT = British Standard Pipe Taper thread (Also used as a standard in Japan) |

I think you might buy brass adapters.
For the oil temp: 3/8 to M10x1 Adapter -> Ask if it's BSPT (Taper) or BSPP (Parallel), if it's BSPT you're good to go ! + Oil temp sensor It's more for the water temp that you will have a problem, because VDO don't make sensor in BSPT and I don't see any 1/4 BSPT adapter on your dealer's website... BUT you can buy something like THIS And so you can buy this Water temp sensor (And I don't speak dutch, so dutch website doesn't really help me to help you...) |

Jimmi The Kid Wrote:The correct place to messure oiltemp, are in the oilpan :wink:Before (in the oil pan) or after the oil pump, it doesn't change anything. But for rallying I will never attach a sensor under the car, it's the best way to snatch everything. |
