Who wants to let me drive their AE86 on the Nurburgring?

Anyone prepared to let me drive their AE86 on the Nurburgring on July 23 when i am visiting Germany? ill offer 100 euros for the trouble of letting me drive 5 laps of the 'ring in your car!

Whahaha, if you find someone stupid enough let me know. 20E a lap is dirt cheap for what is basically an uninsured car without any provision about what happens in the case of a crash (basically owner is fucked and has to trust you about repayment etc!). The 100E will barely cover the fuel, tire and brake wear over 120 circuit km's.

But its not my intention to shoot down any plans. The ring is certainly worth a visit. As a more serious alternative to hachi rental, consider the following:

More or less stock vehicles, with slightly uprated shocks and decent brake systems. 5 laps of the ring in a BMW 318ti will cost you 190E, less fuel. Count on using up close to a tank of gas during those 5 laps.
Still, if something happens and you crash, you are directly liable for all damages to both the track and car. No insurance possible as far as I know.

My mate does ring with E36 328i. His rough estimate is that one lap costs him 50€ with his own car. Ona lap is 7 liters of fuel.
Also has yearly ticked (800€) afair.
Anyway I would also like to drive ae86 on ring for 20€ per lap.
In fact I have a video of AE86 doing the ring that I'll go watch now. Looks like great fun!.

You are insured on the ring, in fact it's normal road during touristdriving, so you have to be insured.
Not every insurance covers it, but if they don't mention anything about the ring specifically, it's ok.
But that's most of the time only once, after one crash you'll get a warning that if it happens again you're out of the insurance.

Also don't forget that if you hit something you'll also have to pay for that.
5 meters of crashbarrier is about €1500... Or if you hit an cruisin Ferarri

Driving on a track (discussion possible on that one), someone else then yourself driving and plenty of damage ..something tells me the insurance company won't just roll over and pay. Most of the times it kinda depends on the amount of damage ..if its minor they don't bother with the discussion. if its more serious , they take you to court.

The rent-a-racecar thing is pretty cool, but not for me. Seing as I cannot afford to replace the car if I crash it..

Well, I just checked the policy (or whatever it's called in english) since I have it handy...

1) not insured on racetracks/circuit, participation in races, enduracne trials, timetrials etc.

Which doens't really add anything new to the subject since it's not clear whether the ring qualifies as such but the next one is a bummer though...

2) Not insured if damage is sustained throught recklessness, or worsening the damage intentionally...

I think that driving the ring would fall under the category recklessness... Or at least it's a good way out for most insurance companies. But I do have to add that I have an oldtimer insurance, so it might be different for normal insurance...

As an funny on the side, I just discovered that I'm not insured if the car gets damaged due to a nuckear reaction/explosion...

If you drive someone else's car, even if you crash on public roads (so just the road down the street from your house), insurance can be a real pain in the but. Especially if you are not from the same country as the owner of the car (that usually voids insurance in a heartbeat). As far as I know you are only insured abroad if you drive a rental car, or if you take your own car. Lend a locals car and your f'ed.

Insurance companies make enough trouble as it is if you crash your own car at the ring, let alone if you crash someone else's..

And trust me, you don't want to crash on the ring, been there, done that, cost me way to much money.. (and yes, I wasn't even driving because I co-owned a car back then).

I've been there en done that, i had €1200 damage on the crashbarriers on the ring (too bad it wasn't even mine..) and let the insurance pay it.... On an semi-oldtimer insurance. No wonder that they give me a warning :lol:

And the problem most people don't know is that Nurenburgring during 'touristenfahren' open road is, so its not a race track at that moment! The insurance has to say specifically that they don't cover the ring. Just like i said above
All german companies cover the ring and most dutch companies also.

Really unsure about back in Europe, but here in the states you can get international insurance. It's steep, given it's the same rate, but you pay for the time you're away as you pay for your normal one, so it's about double the rate you're used to paying. I don't have full coverage on my AE86, since a car this old would be worth it's weight in gold by the US insurance standarts, but anyway.
