The 1031 axle is more robust and stronger.

i was talking to a friend who already did the pajero axle conversion and it looks like a good mod, has beefy axles, a strong lsd, 4,7X final drive, the whole assemly is about 1cm wider compared to the 86 and its also possible to machine the halfshaft ends for 4x114,3 pcd
i found a cheap volvo 245 GL D6, it has 2200cc petrol engine and is a stationwagon. would this be the model which has the 1030/1031 axle? do the 1030/1031 axles use friction plates(clutchpack) lsd or are they have helical (torsen) lsd? final drive ratio? |

The factory LSD's were clutchpacks. Take a look at DANA30 LSD's over on ebay. You have many types, even hydraulically actuated (button in car). Lockers etc.

The 1031 model axle is indeed stronger, but does not have dana compatible ring and pinion gears. At best you'll be able to fit a dana specific LSD, but gears will be more expensive.
I was eyeballing some dana 30 clutchpack LSD's with electromagnetic locking capability for about 500 dollars on ebay a while ago (have a 1031 equipped volvo in storage). That's a regular LSD that can be fully locked at the flip of a switch. You'll have to do some research on which models will fit though. I believe there are different ringgear offsets for >3.9 ratio rnp, thus 2 different models of lsd. I believe only one fits the volvo housing, not sure which one. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |
