ae86 motor swap
i have a 1987 toyota ae86 corolla. it has the 4age 16v motor in it with alot done to it. cams intake exhaust things like that. but it is just not enough umph for me. so i was talking to my friend and we thought well, what about throwing in a 1jzgtte in it but that would be expensive. the 2jz is jsut out of the question. so we thought that the 7mgte would be a great choice to put in. it seems like there would be enough room in the engine bay if i moved the radiator forward more and i can nock the fire wall back a bit too. so my question is what do your guys think. i need some other opinions on this one.

If you are building a drag car: go for it.
There is actually someone I know who is almost finished with this swap, might be interesting to get some real life impressions. My personal choice would be a lighter boosted engine that you could mount as far backwards as the 4A-GE. Power output is still easily in the 300+hp range so no shortage in that department. The 7MGTE will have a lot of weight sticking out towards the front of the car, potentially ruing any chance of a quick turning car...then again, with that much hp, you'll probably have other things on your mind. no i really like they way the car handles. what other options do i have. i chose the 7mgte because it is cheap power. i would love to have more tourque with this car because it is so light. plus i just love my 86. i'll go in another direction but it needs to be as cheap as possible.

Sounds like 4AGZE might be up your alley if torque is what you are after. These days getting expensive and hard to find, but once put in your car, relatively easy to tune but they aren't hi revving engines. But you could think of a 4AGTE conversion and go all out. 1/3rd of the cost of a GZE, comes with a bullitproof tranny and cheaper to extract large amounts of power out of. Supposedly only 20kg heavier then a GZE, but I never had one on the scales myself. Also just another little 4 banger that will drop into the 4A-GEs exact position, so the distribution of weight stays more or less the same. Either way, count on the character of the car changing quite dramatically. More like surfing a big wave of torque then wringing out every last horse left in the engine. what do you want. A fast car. I have to agree altough i aint fond of it placing a difrent brand engine in the car. Nohachi does have a point. If you just want plain power then you should go for turbo applications.

i wouldnt mind turboing my car. but i was under the impression that it would be very expensive. plus if CA18DET is not legal in some places i am sure it is not legal here in the states especially connecticut. i hate the emmision laws here. i came from a k5 blazer with a 350 in it so i am just not used to having no torque.
