Yes, it's possible that someone took out the distributor and put it back in wrong. It happened to me once. When you set your engine to top dead center on the no1 cilinder you can put it in correctly. Just line up the small punchmark and a line on the input shaft (or vice versa) and put it in as straight as possible..
