exhaust wrap yes/no ?
I've been seeing different opinions on exhaust wraps.
Some say its "a must have" and other disagree, especially regarding to exhausts extractor temperature.

I have stock exhaust header which which I'm not planning to change if possible. I was thinking, is stock material good enough to withstand higher temperature caused by wrap ?

Are there any other drawback ?

Thanks

not entirely sure but I think I remember a thread in here where someone had issues wrapping the stock header because it started glowing red hot even on slight load...

EDIT - here it is second last post http://www.aeu86.org/viewtopic/exhaust-g...p/start=25

I wrapped my manifold (Full race spec 200bhp 4A-GE) because when using the car at the circuit, the heat from the manifold was slightly deforming my distributor cap, eventually causing the rotor to shattter.
I've had no problems with the manifold as a result of wrapping.

However, If you don't have a spring flanges or flex pipe on your manifold - and it's prone eventually to cracking, then wrapping may not be such a good idea.

A lot of race cars use wrapped manifolds. None of them melt. If the exhaust temps are too high, then there's probably something wrong with the ignition timing / fueling.

Few other people told me same thing, potential problem with gloving manifold so I'm occasionally checking to see if there is too much heat.
Two days passed, about 100km and no problem, even after faster driving.

Got one part of manifold exposed so it's easy to check.

Reason to wrap it is same as Miguels, trying to protect distributor.

Are there any cons related to wrapping ?
