hello all
Good evening everyone,
Although I don't own a ae86, I have just bought a 4age small port which I plan to put in a kit car after a full rebuild and upgrades Cool
So far it has been striped and waiting for more parts and money, hoping to get to 200 bhp with this build. This is my first engine strip/build so I will be taking my time and reading up lots on here to get what I need first time round.
See you around
Graham

Welcome! Wave
What kit car are you thinking about?

Welcome, I hope you saved plenty of cash. 200hp is doable but anything else than cheap. Any particular reason why you opted for the 4AGE over a Beams (considering the later would be same price if not cheaper)?

hello all
I already have a kit car which is a Ron champion book built 7, but I'm running a 1600 crossflow which feels like it is loosing power so I thought I would replace with a newer revier engine.
I went for the 4age as I need to keep below 1700 to stay in the same class when sprinting/hill climbing
Parts list so far is:
3.4kg flywheel
Crank pulley with 36-1 timing (planning to use omex)
Ph4 Newman cams
And of course the engine
This little lot is already over 1000
Still need to get pistons, ARP bolts, valve spring/shimless buckets, oil water pumps and gasket sets plus machining
Can anyone recommend a good cylinder head who work with Toyota's?
Cheers Graham

hello all
Ph4 Newman cams have 'only' 8.5mm of lift, even with the 288 duration that won't get you to 200hp.

here's one example who got to your desired figure. Specs at the end of the first post.

In my opinion you can reach it with 288 cams but not with less than 10mm of lift (the more the better) and some 12:1 static CR or more. Also you'll need very good headwork for that to work. alternative is very high rpms but that's probably even more expensive in the long run.

Thought I was being a bit optimistic but as long as I get good power out of I will be happy, don't think I've got 100bhp with the ford crossflow ATM ?.
The cams where £300 new so dont think i will lose money if i find the right ones or I may just stick with them for now. Should I still be looking to get a compression ratio of 12 to make good power and keep it future proof?
Thanks for the advice

I'd say focus on a more 'realistic' target.. 200 can be done, but will need frequent rebuilds and wont respond well to regular pump gas (12:1 CR brings serious risk of detonation).

OldSkewlToy has a solid mildly modded 16v putting out 170hp. That's a good example if you ask me. With a solid base like that, but somewhat more performance oriented changes, you should be able to attain 180 hp without having to rev the engine over 8000 rpm (thus keeping the engine more reliable).

Or just slap a freshened up blacktop in there and sell the smallport.. 160-ish @ the crank in stock form without all the hassle.

That's just it I want the hassle so I can understand more rather than sticking with standard!
200 would be a nice number to have but seeing your reply I realise that for me it would be impractical. 180 should be more than enough for 550kg of car and my driving skills for the time being Smile
