But you are right about it being easier to say Torino (or tureno) than Trueno, (except if you are a hispanic ofcourse).

I know the GTS was used for several cars of the Toyota lineup: it was also used for the Corona. That would make my guess that Toyota was just trying to use the term for high-end models.
