Wiring in spotlights (Cibies)
I have a wiring diagram here for wiring in 4 spotlights to the front of my AE86, it works with full and dip beam however it is on the whole time along with the headlights.
Id light to wire it up so that the full and dip work in the spotlights however they only turn on when the glass grill foglights are turned on. Would someone be able to explain how to do this? |

That diagram appears to idicate thatyou use two auxiliary relays to
switch the spots. One relay is triggered by the headlight "high beam" being turned on i.e. you tap 12V off the wire taking 12V to the high beam of the headlights. This one should turn on the "high beam" of the spots. The second relay is triggered by the wire taking 12V to the "side lights" whatever they may be ?? If, in fact, your spots have a high and a low beam, then this wire should (presumeably) turn on the low beam of the spots. However, to make sense, if you want your spots to be on high when the headlights are on high, and to be on dip when the headlights are on dip, you should trigger the second relay off the 12V feed to the dip filament in your headlights Key thing here is that you need to have wired in two new relays. You could get yourself a double pole double throw relay (dpdt) and wire the 'headlight main beam' and 'sidelight +' wires through the switches. Power the coil with a 12v signal from your grill foglights and the spots will only be able to come on if the foglights are on.

Okay, but it looks more complicated than it is.
I must correct a little error in my last post: you need a dpdt relay. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

Ha When I read the original post I thought you had wired the spots
into the fog light circuit !!! A case of too fast the reading and too slow the comprehension :-P I'm guessing that this is for a rally car ? Because otherwise most countries have regulations regarding how many lights you may have showing to the front. Cheers... jondee86 |

i drew that diagram origionally. the sidelights are a small 5w bulb which comeon with the cars sidelights. i put them on a relay ast they kept blowing the sidelight fuse on the car as there are 4 of them.
what you would need to do is just take the wire 86 main beam relay to the positive on your grill fogs heres a picture of the sidelights |
