master cylinder upgrade ?
I know it has often been discussed , but can't find a clear answer .
I've fitted the front FC Mazda 4 pots caliper , but found the brake master cylinder weak: good bleeding but a very long pedal stroke . I did search on forums and saw many solutions for upgrading the BMC.But most are for right hand drive . I'd like to find a solution for a left hand drive (ae86 of course), with a two bolts BMC. Stock is 13/16, and I'd like to find a 1" . I'd like to avoid the abs BMC . And finally a easy to find part. Saw the supra MKIV , but it's so uncommon here in Belgium ! There's also the Camry late generation, but i'm not sure about fitting holes compatibility.And may be mods to be done about ABS? I guess I'm asking much , but who knows? There was some talk about using AE82 master cylinders a few years ago, supposedly those have a bigger inner diameter too. Dont know if it will fit the 2-bolt or 4-bolt version though.

thxs but I found infos about AE82 , and the cylinder bore size is 22,2mm.
I don't think it's bigger than the AE86. I'm more after 1" dia . Pretty hard to get a reliable info Thanks anyway Phil Filh Save the RWD cars |

can anybody confirm that a celica st202(2l 3sge) or at200(1,8l 7 age) (year 94-99) would fit .I think it's 15/16"

In Australia the Mitsubishi Starion 15/16" master cyclinder is said to
be an easy bolt on upgrade... but I don't have any specs on the chassis code or part number. Cheers... jondee86 |

Latest AE92 GT-i (small port 4A-GE and 258mm front brakes) have a 25mm brake master cylinder, but it have 3 bolts...

The AE82 master cylinders are 7/8" as opposed to the ae86's 13/16" diameter.
It's not much, but it's almost an 8% increase in diameter. Have you measured the difference in fluid capacity between the OEM and RX7 calipers? FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

Thanks S.K. , but it's so hard to have the brake booster removed . Specially , with the roll cage and lateral cross ....
That's why I prefer to keep the stock 2 nuts Booster . To Jondee , Yes , it's correct , but pretty hard to find , as It's getting old and uncommon here . To Ivan : No didn't measure the difference between both caliper , but I'm sure I need a bigger BMC . I read lots of topics and same conclusion the stock 13/16" is not giving enough fluid . I could sse it when bleeding , not much brake fluid coming out bleeders . I think I need a 15/16" or 1" BMC . The brake pedal is very soft ( and I'm sure of bleeding) . 2 reasons : 1° BMC is to weak to supply enough brake fluid to calipers . 2° the rear brake calipers are bad . The floating caliper is guided on rubber , and even with new ones , it's not well guided (lot of clearance) Just make the experience . Ask a friend to press brake pedal while you're looking at rear brake calipers . You'll see that the first caliper action is to get in place , before piston apply power to pad . That's thre reason why stroke brake pedal is so long . Regards to all Phil Filh Save the RWD cars |

r32 gtst non ABS master fits fine, and does the job well
Brake with the left hand, steer with the right foot... |

r32's are even harde to find here than supra's.
I believe old cressida's do have 15/16" master cylinders..perhaps that will help. Otherwise you can always try a used ae82 master cylinder and see what that does. Did you know you can buy springs to keep the brake pistons from getting pressed back due to disc deflection? FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |
