SekiguchiUeno - well , i'm flattered that you welcomed me . =) thats the only problem , i'm worried that I'll get a AE86 and end up throwing $15-$20k into ! but its definately a car that I would like to get . I saw a local guy selling one for $500 but he flaked on me . but one day , i'll definately get one .

mux213 - thanks man ! the civic is really not that bad . lol . it helps me avoid speeding tickets . maximum uphill is 60mph , fastest i went downhill was like 100mpg , but i average 65mph which keeps me safe . lol

faz
- thanks man . its really flattering . 2007 sti would be a great platform to start from because of the new transmission . it would be a nice daily driver also .

banpei - if i can find a ae86 , i would definately replace the civic with it , but its just reliability that I am worried about . I drive about 150 miles a day and the civic is holding up great . what do you think I would need to do to a AE86 to make it a nice dependable daily driver ?

again guys , thanks so much for the warm welcome !

Billy,

AE86 is a perfect daily driver if you get an original car. I drive mine daily for almost 3 years now but I've got nice stiff suspension so its no longer a comfortable car. But technically these things take a lot of abuse and rarely let you down.
Rust is really your only enemy, if you get a good shell, the engine will last, the stock suspension is comfortable (though often warn but a nice set of shocks, springs and bushings doesn't have to be expensive), LSD could be an expensive repair if its acting up. All in all, if you want it as a daily driver, to get it back into good condition, isn't expensive, only when you want something that will be competitive, then the $$$ starts adding up fastSmile
