nzae86's TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2,
Another weekend disappears and no more progress , I do have a bit of an excuse as last weekend was spent doing this as codriver.! And yesterday was spent unpacking everything from the rally .
I may find a little time today to start fitting the new Earls dry sump lines that the Porsche driver bought out from the states for me, at less than half the cost of buying them here in New Zealand ! Another week of working away so it gets a bit frustrating at times when all the bits for my N2 car are sitting there waiting. |

Hey there! Awesome job so far. You wouldnt happen to have, or be able to get, some more pics of your steering column bracket attachment to the dash bar, do you?
It looks like you just used the bottom "tray" from the stock bracket piece and welded it straight to the bar. Is that right? If so, did you do any reinforcing around the area for up/down and twisting? Thanks! Wow, I could have sworn I had an account here... I guess I'm the new guy |

Hi there You are correct in the mounting of the steering column , it has been shaped and welded to the front piece of roll cage tubing .I will take some detailed photos when I am at home this weekend . |

nzae86,
I have a gze in it. 15x9.5-19 and 15x10-25 watanabe's on 205.50.15 and 225.50.15. This is my third N2 set up. The first had 225.50.15's and too much tire in the front, the second had 195.50.15, not enough meat, this is perfect. I bought this built already and was well worth it. |

einneb Wrote:You do so good job with this car. Thanks , I decided that to build this car it will be one of a few TRD replica cars in the world , so everything must be of the best quality. I have taught my self to build cars , as I am involved in the construction of top end residential homes here in New Zealand. I take the same standards that I work with during the day and use them to build my cars in my spare time .A lot of people will rush a project to just complete it and have it running , where I would rather take a bit longer and do everything to the best of my skills, I enjoy building cars as much as racing them. At least if it stops on me during a race or rally I have a good knowledge of how to make it go again, and can only blame myself!!, my rally car has been 100% reliable ! I have specialist work done by people that I know well and work to the same standards as myself , such as ,panel work , engine builder, and painter , the rest I do myself . Here in NZ we are known through out the world as being very" hands on " when it comes to practical and technical projects . I have built my collection of cars, parts , workshop , tools and equipment over a long period of time working with AE86's . To me this is a hobby ,I enjoy building them and it helps me forget about work !! I still don't know what I'm going to do with this car when I have finished , I may just drive it to work!!!!!!!!! |
