stock strut shocks (rally)
Again in trouble with worn shocks on my AE86 rally car .

I'm searching shocks with a stock length strut , as hard as my former blue Tockico :48511-AE891.
I also had Bilstein shocks , but they are HD , too soft for rallying .
I'd like to keep stock strut lenght , and don't want coilover for now .
Any idea , suggestion , links or shops welcome .

tokico blue is a .... shock. Bilstein has really good rally shocks. (the ones you can adjust) Koni will never die but the rebound isn't to good.

Tokico HTS?

Phil just get the Bilsteins re-valved. 300-70 for tarmac (front)
I use these on my tarmac rally car with Spax adjustables on the back.

[u:815b4ef754]To Eric[/u:815b4ef754]: not really : these are Monroe Gasmatic
Koni are banned for me , as they have a poor reability ( got some pairs worn)

Bilstein is great , but they don't provide adjustable shocks for teh ae86.

[u:815b4ef754]To Totta Corolla[/u:815b4ef754] : I got worn HD , I 'll contact a guy who's doing rebuilding
to know if he get them hardened. Hope 300-70 will speak to him.

To Sx Machine : will try to find The kyb agx , but I don't know if they're hard enough for rallying .
Thanks for your advices

I've search about KYb AGX , and read that rear MR2 shocks can be used !
But do they fit the stock strut or are they short strut .
I also found that that spacer can be used , to keep the stock strut?
Any experience welcomed

If you already have the Bilsteins then a rebuild / re-valve of them would be cheaper and most probably better for your application. About 90 Euro each in the U.K
I chose 300-70 as this is the Group 4 MK2 Escort tarmac spec. Speak to your man he may have other ideas about the rates.
Personally and speaking from experience I don't think adjustables are absolutely necessary for rally. TC

i agree , I'm not sure about adjustable shocks necessity on rallye applications (speaking about front suspension)
.
What kind of springs do you use on front, and what rate ?

I also need springs for rear , as they are used and now too short.
I've see the Camaro Kyb adjustable shocks , that should be a good alternative .

I use 2.25" I.D race springs on coilover struts (converted standard struts)
10.5" 350lb
I may go lower with these rates though, probably around 280lb
Is yours a gravel and / or tarmac car Phil ?
