Nice update! Those cam gears look really cool on black. I would reconsider about changing them with red ones if I were you.

DK AE86 renovation and turbo project - Now driveable
Hello.
Time for a little update! Finally the engine has been mounted. That is a piece of cake with such a large engine bay for such a small engine I've also installed the engine wire harness. And mounted my painted cam covers. I'm glad I had them painted the same colour as the car, and not red or a polished look. Surely the transmission had to go in also, and I also had time to mount my TRD shift knob. I've also mounted the front suspension system and torsion bar. And my newly refurbished brake callipers. And yesterday I had to find out if my wiring from the battery in the back of the car, is working. So I tried to crank the car... and it WORKED!! That was kind of a concern for me, due to all the rewiring I've made. What kind of power are you looking for? I'm looking to do the same thing as soon as I find my self the right trueno from Japan. Still looking for it.. Hope to start the project this spring/summer. If not then next winter..
What kind of a turbo should I be looking for in hopes of about 300rwhp from a 4a-gze transformed to 4a-gte? |

Hello Lew.
According to my calculations, regarding the airflow in the engine, and my turbo it should be around 280 bhp (at the flywheel) at normal boost, around 1.18 bar (17.7 psi) and then later I'll be adding a boost controller, and an overboost level, and that should give me around 310 bhp. I'll post my plots of my theoretical airflow used by the engine (bare in mind that this is very theoretical, based on an approximation on the base hp output of a 4AGZE, and an approximation on the compression ratio) on the flow chart on the Garrett GT2860RS turbo. Mine is with a 0.64 A/R, but if you go for the 0.86 A/R you would be able to get more hp out of the engine. But at the cost of a bit of loss in low rpm power. Hope this helps. How have you calculated the lines you've put on the Compressor Map?

Ozone
It's been over a year since I did those calculations, so I'll have to find the theorems and do them again. I'll PM you an explanation and the theorems ASAP. Hey Guys!
Yesterday we managed to start the engine . It was a great day in my AE86 story! I recorded it on my camera, and I've put the film up on Youtube. I'll post a link as soon as it is processed. The engine is fitted with the original header, but with just about a meter of piping. So it's pretty noisy. But it works for now. I've fitted my high pressure fuel pump from Bosch, with an appropriate bracket. Now it all works and runs, so I just need to get busy refitting the front end of the car Oh, and my seats also found the way into the car So for now, before the film is ready, you'll have to settle with these pictures of the process.
