Further progress with the wiring. The lights in the rear were done last week, this week the focus is on the front end... getting it all wired, and laid out.
Here is the front end wiring from before todays work... routing it, and determining all that needs to be there, and where it is going. Mark is the dude in the middle of the 3 panel.... one of these times I'll get him to bow... but that can wait for now Headlamps, directionals, running lamps, fog lamps, and horns are now wired Dan - You can | .... Surreptitious.....
First off.... kudos to Delphi(Kenny - admin over @ hr.net). His post in my "WTD" thread helped in sourcing the socket assemblies.
My problem: My AE71 "normally" has 2 separate amber lens up front, one set for directional signals, the other set for parking lamps. In my car the 2nd amber lamps assemblies are being eliminated, so the problem is how to use one amber lens for two purposes. I did a bit of studying... and found there was enough room on the lamp and the headlamp door to mount a 2nd light in the housing. note the black marker mark. The person I know with aftermarket lighting expereince is shadowless_nite (Justin - also hr.net member). I called him, and then brought the lights over to him. He worked on it for me a bit, and came up with a LED The concept was right...but the LED wasn't bright enough. I felt some incandesent type bulb was necessary, but all the "normal" bulbs used as markers were much too large to mount in the lamp. I did some searches online for small 12V bulbs... doll house bulbs are what I found first, the problem with dollhouse bulbs is the same as LED... just not bright enough(50mA, or about 5% of a watt) I then had the idea of using a Mag light bulb... but there are no 12V Mag light bulbs I found.... I went out to the garage to look around... and I was picking through a parts box when the socket was just there.... Micro bulbs are either 1.2, or 1.5 watts(much brighter than LED) It was almost the right size... the barbs had to be removed and once I did I was able to twist the socket into the light (tight pressure fit) Now that I had the solution, I just needed to find another socket. I looked online...... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA good luck with that. I then went to Discount Import Auto(Euro auto parts supplier), they had spare bulbs... but nothing like the socket I needed.... So... I post in the HR classifieds....... Delphi responds to my post that the sockets look a lot like the sockets behind the lights and wiper switches.... That they ARE!!!! Again, TY Kenny! So, I know have a pair of sockets... and here they are fitted And here they are in operation!!!!!!! If you look carefully you can see the OEM bulbs inside the lights, NOT lit. I believe the 1.2 watt micro bulbs to be plenty bright enough as parking lamps. Problem solved. Dan - You can | .... OR you can ask for help!!! Surreptitious.....
Well......... a LONG "F"ING time has passed since I last posted... And MOST of that is waiting for parts!!!!
Why, what more could this project need???? Well... all the new wiring available is based on GM harnesses. SOOO???? Well, Toyota does things a bit differently then GM, and I being a stubborn SOB, have decided to persuade(more like harass) Mark into making this work like a Toyota.... What does all that jibberish mean??? The new harness came with NO relays! The EZ Harness is all direct wire, like GM (boooooo... hissssssssss) So, Mark is "building" this from scratch to mimic a Toyota harness!!! and so this is what the "F" we've been stalled on!!! Once those relays arrive, they, along with the fuse box, will get mounted on a firm backer, and likely placed in one of the kick wells. Dan - You can | .... OR you can ask for help!!! Surreptitious.....
I good question was asked at another forum.........
Quote:So how will the amber light work at night. One bulb is already on and then another starts blinking when you make a turn? Yes, right now, it is my choice(have yet to decide) which will be signal, and which will be parking lamp... but based on demo below... I think I'll be using the original 194 as the directional signal and the micro bulb as the parking lamp Hmmmmm, in reality... this set-up is SAFER then it was OEM... why, you say?? Look up at the photo showing the unchanged front end, the lights below the bumpers were the directional signals... that meant NO ONE to the side could have any idea if you were changing lanes/turning. With the modified amber lamp housing two bulbs... the directional NOW flashes out to the SIDE, as well as forward! Dan - You can | .... OR you can ask for help!!! Very ingenious solution!
Damn, if I had known you were ever in need of those micro bulb sockets: I threw away a set of those (along with a salvaged SR5 loom) when I moved a year ago. 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |
