@mux: It will, cause I have only 500 euro in the bank (which should get me through February). I'm already paying 600 euro to the f***ers annually, so they'd better pay.

The guy I bumped into has a full insurance (covers everything, even your own faults), so I'm trying to convince him to declare that. His premium will go up though so the situation looks complicated.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGHH

This totaly sucks

Yeah thats the way it works. If you let your insurence pay you're rates will go up and in the end you just end up paying those guys for the accident, especially with these low damage claims its very unfair. Insurence only really pays off when you have a larger accident and they pay for you...

The same goes for the mercedes guy, he could have his insurence pay it but he'll end up paying for the repair costs in tripple by higher insurence costs so I doubt that is an option.

You're gonne have to do the math, see what the raise in premium costs you in the long run. If its more then the insurence pays to this guy maybe you can strike a deal. Ask him if you can pay him in deposits (having a mercedes he prolly has plenty of money to pay for the repairs). In the long run it could be cheaper. And else just accept and go on.

2 mux213:
This way of thinking and acting makes insurances senselessnes!!!
Insurances cover risks. So - if BMW guy and Dorito86 are carefull drivers and incidens are rare in their insurance "log" - why insurance company should raise their rates? Especially BMW driver - hes insurance can cover damages from Dorito86's car because of "expanded insurance" - and no way to receive rise in rate if the case is "Dorito86 is guilty"!

Auch... That sucks! Sad
What I've leaned from insurance is that when you don't need it, you have to pay a fair fee for it, but whenever you need it they will try to come up with whatever reason not to pay you money and still raise your fee because you just became a higher risc. Angry

jamiemirror,

thats not intirely true mate. Insurance works on the principle that only 1 out of X people have an accident but you never know whom. If those X people pay together for that one accident then things stay affordable.

The more accidents will happen, the lower X is, the higher the amount will be that each individual has to pay. To make sure that people do not abuse insurences by faking accidents, which is easy to do with cars, (and thus being the ones who get the money instead of paying it) insurers have put a penalty system in place. If you claim money you pay a higher monthly fee for several years. The more accidents you are involved in, the more you end up paying.

The amount your insurence raises has to do with the average height of an insurence claim divided by X (or something similar). Atleast in holland the amount your insurence raises by is not couple to the height of the claim (which is very unfair in my eyes but ok)...

This means that if your damages are higher then a certain amount it makes sence to put in a claim, thats what insurences are for, so you dont have to pay something you cant afford just cause you were involved in an accident.
But if it is lower then that certain amount it makes sence to pay for the damages yourself or in the long run, you will end up paying more then those damages in extra insurence money. The insurence companies welcome you to do so because they will earn more moneySmile
(actually this is the whole reason personal risk clauses are put into all risk insurences these days. You tell your insurence company you never will put in a claim below, say 500 euros, and in return they will give you lower insurence rate).

For amounts <1000 euro's I would always try to see if I can settle it with the person who's car I damaged. Only above that I would use the insurence.

Wery simple.....

I get -10% of on my annual payment to the insurance company for every year I drive without an accident.
when I have a accident I get +10% and I wont recive the discount that year..... so its 20% in reality. This discount is never higher then 75-80% so you will always have to pay somthing......
And mind you that the +10% fee is for everytime you crash, not every year you crash Tongue

Here in Norway atleast I have to pay a "youth adition" 18-25year old people have to pay way more.....
But if I drive without a accident until I'm 25 (or 5 years if I signed it when I was like 22) then I get it all back!
SO here in norway you find a lot of people who wreck their cars and just sell them off for nothing, cous they can't afford to loose that money that awaits them at their 25yh birthday.

Mux, bjelke:
It seems that rules vary in each contry. Here insurance companies cannot force me to pay more (or less) - we just have one obligatory and one extra insuranse. Obligatory ones serve as insurance for repairs of the other car in accident, the extra one - for repairs of my car. If the companies apply flexible rate (they will - in the near future) - this will apply only to the obligatory one - this is the reason that I recommended to Dorito86 such solution.
PS: I like the Norway situation :-) To get money back for 5 years of insurance=buy another AE86 in mint condition! Hurray! I drove a car from 1992 and my first accident was 2004 - with my AE86 ...

Dorito86 Wrote:@Mulisha: I've already asked for powdercoating. The guy told me to divide the wheels first and bring him just the inner parts. Perhaps he knew it would be a full time job doing that. Sad

Also, with powder coating you can only paint all of the wheel. I want the "cross" of the rim to remain metal, just like in the picture above.

not true, u cann protect the rim parts that u dont wanna paint with that yelow sticky thing that u use to protect stuff when painting your room, or your car or anything, it will handle a 200+ °C temperature needet for a powder coating procedure .

i know because i use that stuf to protect metal when powder coating some thing. Wave

@mux, jamiemirror, banpei, s.bjelke: I have admitted the fault to my insurance and they will cover the Mercedes repairs. As for my hachi, I've asked for repairing the door and they asked for 170 euro, excluding paint. So, I think I'll try to get a full door. Last time I checked it went for 100 euros.

@Rio: Thanks for the info man, but I think I'll leave them as they are for the time being.

As far as your rims are concerned did you see an advertisement in DRIVE magazine (Feb 2005) saying that you can chrome-paint them there in Aigaleo? If yes do you know prices?
