American Rally 86 UPDATE
Dude, I have no idea. I've been trying to figure that out too!
Dad thought it might be a reinforcement, or a damper of some kind. Wow, I could have sworn I had an account here... I guess I'm the new guy |

American Rally 86 UPDATE
Oh snap.....
The other box is in. The driver's side is welded to the bracket and just needs the front top portion finished, the co driver's side needs to be welded to the bracket and the top and the holes punched, but it IS welded to the chassis! And in other news, the bottom is about 80% sanded, about to be ready for paint. Should be painted by monday, or ON monday, wooo Wow, I could have sworn I had an account here... I guess I'm the new guy |

American Rally 86 UPDATE
Got the boxes all welded in and made some little skid plates for the brackets. With the underbody protection over it, They should be nice and protected.
Then I got some POR 15 and brushed it into all the seams before I reseal them, and went ahead and covered the rest of the underside of the car, making sure to cover the external seams and any [wirewheeled] rusted areas well. The engine bay and interior will be next, painted white. However, I have a bit more work to do in the cabin/engine bay before it will get paint. Wow, I could have sworn I had an account here... I guess I'm the new guy |

American Rally 86 UPDATE
Ok, I've finally gotten more "picture quality" work done, haha.
In the quest to find masking material, I found a good use for my returned college papers from last quarter (this quarter just started, and I just cleaned my backpack out, lol) Painted And here is the sunroof blank welded on. We used the TIG, and just made little tack welds, and worked from the center out. It took a little caressing, as you'll see in the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YNH7qwFgeg Wow, I could have sworn I had an account here... I guess I'm the new guy |

Tiny update...
Got the driver's side box top spot welded down. I need to do a bit more welding on it, but it was late, and I was tired, So I stopped. Really not that amazing, lol but it's more progress. Wow, I could have sworn I had an account here... I guess I'm the new guy |

American Rally 86 UPDATE
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand update.
Got the boxes..... FINISHED! They are functionally 100 percent done. To be 110% they will need a bit of bracing...and some clean up grinding which I'll work on tomorrow, most likely. Got the master cylinders' brace done. It's even chrome moly for weight savings  (ok, actually, we just happened to have the piece laying around, haha) And I got the last chassis floor holes plugged up. I've just got to get the seat belt mounts, the rear strut tower tube, and maybe one or two little brackets or random things done AND THEN THE FABRICATION IS DONE!!!!!!!! About friggin time, huh? Wow, I could have sworn I had an account here... I guess I'm the new guy |
