tacho signal wire
Black wire from the ignitor I believe and I wondered if anyone could tell me where it enters the interior through the bulkhead. Just need to tap into it to do a little data logging. Thanks

You can access the tach from the back side of the cluster.......

This is my AE71 cluster... but it is fitted with the AE89(FX16) tach. the wires coming out are in replacement for screws.

Go into your wiring manual, figure out which of those leads is the tach signal, and fit a tapping wire under the screw!

thanks OST, to be honest I was hoping not to have to remove the cluster !
I just want to catch the wire on its way through. Ideally it would be the ecu side as the other data aquisition will come from the ecu wires.
Having just thought about it, is there another engine speed signal I could use from the ecu ?

IGf square wave comes from igniter.
All old toyota tachos take signal DIRECTLY FROM COIL NEGATIVE!

Black with orange stripe near ECU (but nmot connected to ECU)
