I've got the 1kw one checked the partnumbers... I haven't taken it out yet will do on monday and see what's broken - maybe the brushes are down as it didn't turn at all - just one click and dead.

Sounds more like a battery issue to me, but it wouldn't hurt to take a look whilst it's out.

so car is running again - just need to pop down to garage tomorrow to get the timing set properly again and some new groud wires...
still don't know what was wrong but just for reference saturday afternoon after a short (30min) trip to Grimbergen the car refused to start after lunchbrake - when trying to start only a clicksound came from the enginebay. After push starting the car - it ran fine so I went backk home - today I removed the exhaustmanifold to get the starter out as I suspected it was dead - after a while bloody thing was out and in my hands... so did the performance test according to the manual - everything fine so i refitted it again... so starter is ok maybe a ground wire wasn't good... checked all the grounds everything fine too so thought feck it everything is fine as far as I can see so tried to start it again... and voila it started. doh so refitted the exhaust manifold again with some new gaskets (had spares at home) conclusion - my car seemd to turn moody after it's 25th birthday... I'll be replacing the 3 main ground wires (battery, block and head) just for the sake of it and hope the problem is done with. case closed AE86 ex-daily |

I have the same problem sometimes, if it doesn't start just get a hammer or a big piece of tube and hit the starter while starting. Always works for me

I know that trick but that means you should replce the brushes in your starter (my brushes are fine checked them today) - the alternator has similar brushes and can also be cured with a little smack but replacing the brushes is better, especialy on the alternator as worn down brushes can destroy the alternator shaft
anyway new ground wire ordered should be ready at the dealer within the next 48h and I'll get the timing set tomorrow. so everything should be good and going again just before I leave for holiday AE86 ex-daily |

Well time for a small update again - left Belgium and back in Switzerland again but probably only for a couple of weeks. The car is stored away for further transportation. Meanwhile I received my new camshafts (catcams 13 went for one step smaller than originaly planed but should still do the trick. Orderd a spring/retainer kit from supertech to go along with the cams. As soon as I get my hands on my engine I'll fit the cams and measure clearances so I can order some solid lifters for ease of mind. If I'm lucky and customs don't delay things further I'll have a spare smallport longblock to go along with my car :-)
Still got some small stuff to do and get along the way but time is limited as is money but good things take time. Want to get a cooler thermostat (probably TRD 71 degree) to be able to run more CR to get the most of the new cams. Also looking to source the Toyota ESA distributor (as fitted to some 4A-GZEs) and run the new engine with the megasquirt in wastedspark coilpack mode - meanwhile the distributor will get a new rotor and cap as it's past the best times and doesn't cost much. Well so much for now - next update will be next year as I doubt I'll see my car before christmas AE86 ex-daily |
