sorry for the noob question, but im runnin a 4age with ITB's and am wondering if its a good idea to put a standalone ecu in or does it make no difference...stock wiring harness is still there btw

What ECU is it runing now?

Standalone ECU is always a plus, especially if ur planing some upgrades.
On the other hand, if you don't want to change anything and the engine is working OK as is, then changing ECU would be wasting money.

Standalone ECU is as good as the person who tuned it.. worst case scenario is a big kaboom..so tread cautiously.

If you have ITB's on a 20V, the factory ECU runs them fine.

If you have an ITB conversion on a 16V, you will never get the best out
of them with a factory ECU. The engine will run, but the fueling will be
wrong. Better to get a standalone on there if you can.

currently there is no ecu in the car....i was suprised to see this since i thought it was needed..its got a cdi mutli spark ignition...it also has an aftermarket fuel pump...wich SUCKS by the way....not to many major mods on the car......thers no oxygen sensor...prolly taken out by previous owner for idk wat reason....im thinking about an ecu so i can get my tachometer working...the cdi box has a wire designated for the tach but when i connected it nothing happed...i kno the signal for the tach comes from the coil...i dont understand the cdi box at all and am hoping to remove it some time perhaps..maybe an msd would be better...idk....wat r ur guys thoughts??

You either have CARBS and a CDI ignition system, or you have ITB's,
a CDI ignition system and an ECU. Unless your CDI system is way more
than a simple black box, it will not be able to control fuel.

So try tracing the fuel injector wires back from the injectors to the inside
of the car. I'd bet you will find an ECU tucked away behind the kick panel
or up under the dash.

There's your problem! You mounted the fuel pump the wrong way Cool

CDI will run your tach just fine..I think there was a thread somewhere on the forums about modding an old relay to amplify the rev signal. Don't know which thread that was, but the thingy is lying on the desk in front of me so Ivan should know.

lol yea i realize that now.... a friend of mine told me since my fuel pump is electronic it is more of a pusher of fuel than a puller...rite now it is mounted in the engine bay close to the itb's...he suggested mounting it by the fuel tank so it can push the fuel instead of pull....any of u guys wuldnt happen to kno where i can find the thread about the amplifier would u?...sorry im new to these threads
