custom boss kit
Hi
Have anyone considered or done custom boss/adapter kit for steering wheel ? Maximum lenght of single adapter is 100mm, i would like more. I think i will need wheel some 15cm or more closer, which could cost me like 100+ € to buy some boss kit and spacer. Have anyone considered machining custom sized adapter for AE86 ? |

I know what youre getting at about the hub needing to be longer for some steering wheels.. but a long machined hub just sounds dangerous and heavy.
Cant you just combine a hub with a snap-off system to get some extra length? I also know they sell longer hubs for ae86's on ebay sometimes. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

It's not an AE86, but i gained a good 10cm with my setup (needed, because i didn't fit under the steering wheel! ) 6 - 7 cm hub, 4-5 cm snap-off and a 6cm dish on the steering wheel. seating position for me is perfect now: "It's all about the heart, the people who focus on parts, turbo's and all that stuff...they're just losers." -Shinji Minowa |

I can, and it will cost 100-150$ easily, look ugly and probably more heavy than machined boss kit :/ Steel can be heavy, but i'm sure it can't be dangerous if good made. |

A lump of steel/alu big enough for a hub does also not come very cheap... The danger I see is more in impaling yourself on your hub in an accident than in the material failing (unlikely).
Most aftermarket hubs use a folded metal approach that has lots more 'give' should you get in an accident. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

Beta stage
Around 2kg and 40e of cost. ATM wall of thinner part is around 5mm. Will cut it down to 2-2,5mm and half the upper part. Will drive weight to ~1,2kg Do not comment the steering wheel style, thanks Ivan141 Wrote:I know what youre getting at about the hub needing to be longer for some steering wheels.. but a long machined hub just sounds dangerous and heavy. Btw. i have some quickrelease here, it weighs more than 400grams. Dont know about standard boss kit but they must be 200+ so it looks 600-700 looks like minimum. Plus you get like 12 more screws. Dont know why this is more dangerous, but it is more heavy... |

Because the thing is pretty resistant in lengthwise direction. Steering bosses are usualy made in a way that they give in a bit at impact. A rigid aluminum tube will probably not.
