Can you elaborate the exact issue? We purchsed 2 sets from Zenky-Racing and they needed some machining to be able to set the tolerances right...

Ok, two problems: First we tried putting a shim between the pinion and main bearing (like the workshop manual states) first was a 98 thou, then a 90, then eventually no shim at all. Basically we cant get the pinion into the housing enough to pull it away from the crown wheel. the contact on the Toe of the leading edge is extreme.
To get it to work without a shim under the bearing, naturally the splines for the flange move up, so to stop the nut bottoming out, a washer had to be put between the nut and the flange at the end of the pinion. This is when I found it abit suspect.

So, the second problem is once we get the backlash to this level (which is pretty good actually) the crown wheel tooth depth is bottoming out on the front edge of the pinion...causing it to occasionally bind up. (flank contact) This is still with the tooth contact -way- on the Toe of the crown wheel.
Pulling the Crown wheel away from the pinion with the side carrier bearings frees up this binding. But the tooth contact gets worse and then the backlash also becomes very loose.

I would like to just check if you had issues with setting the pinion height with no shim.

This sounds exactly the same as the issues we had, our work around was to machine the parts down (shortening the teeth etc... I'm not so good at explaining but I hope you get the point). Btw woper on here had tge same issues also with the zenky-racing r&p.
I guess they all come fom the same factory (Taiwan).
I don't think it's a bad product just overpriced considering the additional work that is needed - here's the link to the zenky ones http://www.aeu86.org/viewtopic/zenky-rac...al/start=0

Hmm I was going to go with the zenky product. I saw you had issues But went with the Gear x Product because (i thought) it would be slightly better quality.

I guess ill have to suck it up. Im not so mad as the other guy I bought a cw&p is..I have to give him his money back and clearly have to pay for it to get machined before he even wants to look at it again.

great!

Well you could always try to get a partial refund from SYM - as the product is clearly faulty... I knew what I was going for with the zenky product as woper had already went through the same but the final price wasok with me.
Hopefully that Taiwan company is going to correct there specs so we don't have to fo through this again and again.

crxman: if you read this might be worth forwarding to your supplier
