Is used TRD exhaust header worth ~200e ?

Hi all

Haven't really searched about various 4AGE 16v headers.
Some TRD 4-2-1 showed up for, at least IMHO reasonble price, but after reading numbers of posts on this topic, I'm not sure TRD headers is the way to go.

It looks like this:


Does it sound like a good upgrade over stock exhaust for 4AGE 16V with Wisecos's, ITB's and 300'/9mm camshafts ?

Any better options ? Or should i just make my own for similar cost ?

are you sure about the brand ?
I never seen any 4-2-1 made by TRD. (always 4-1)

TRD made a 4/2/1 header back in the late 80s, and early 90s




It is a VERY good header..... but I'm NOT entirely sure it is properly sized for your application.

*IF* you have the above engine running properly... I believe the TRD will limit you some. It is FAR superior to the stock manifold, but if you are running what you say you are running, then the JSP headers are likely the best out there

Personally I always seen (I mean with my eyes, not on the web) the 4-1

The JSP one is amazing, but absolutely not the same budget by cons

Yes, it's LHD, they are easily found in USA, most often in club4ag.com classifieds.

I'm still not running that engine, but i have all the parts, so "only" thing left is assembly and mapping. VEMS will run it, good friend is familiar with it so it shouldn't be a problem. So, only uncertainty is how good and how long will it run .

Regarding header, JSP, Danstoy and similar are way out of my budget.

Why do you think TRD 4-2-1 would be a limit for my engine ?
I'm sure Martelius is great but it looks like hardcore racing part... huh, i still consider my AE86 as not-only-trackday. Because of that, I prefer 4-2-1 over 4-1. Want to keep whatever is left in midrange power

I am running the Martelius R1 but changed the rear muffler - simply too loud. It gave a very noticeable increas in torque over the standard!

The TRD 4/2/1 was designed to perform on a stock USA 4AGE. That combination would be 240 duration, 7.5mm lift cams, 9.4 to 1 CR, and a rev limit of 7500. Your build has vastly different parameters.


With that said.... 1) 200 euros is pretty low cost. 2) The TRD IS superior to a stock manifold and headpipe. 3) You can always re-sell it.

It costs even less with this EUR/USD rate.
But, i should carry it from USA in plane, and that's too much trouble for something that doesn't suit me.
