stock ignition for 4AGE 16v
Hi
Does anybody have stock 4AGE ignition map table ? If not, what are the known parameters? AFAIK, stock ignitnon at idle should be put to 10, and it advances to maximum 30-40 BTDC after 3000 or 4000rpm. Is it fixed above 3000/4000 rpm ? Is it changed depending on sudden change in TPS/MAP/MAF ? This is something i used last year when i had Honda PGM-FI ECU on my 4AGE. Left is TPS, above are RPMs Disclaimer 1: Crome is known to have some issues with ignition mapping, so if anything doesn't make sense, Crome could be an issue. Disclaimer 2: I have pretty big problems with fuel and CR, also last year. That's the reason i run pretty retarder. Nevertheless, i need good starting point for building new ignition map. I found some maps online, but i would like to see stock first. Could anyone help building stock map ? Thanks |

If you know how to convert a 8bit MAP in degrees BTDC...
This is the original ignition table from MR2 ECU A french guy tried to convert one from an AE86, and here is what he got: |

very busy right now as it's my wifes birthday - I did ask the same quite a while ago but not sure on which forum, will dig it out tomorrow incl. the source of the 8 bit map, as there is a 3D image of the actual timing map in there too and if I remember correct it's much more aggressive - going beyond 40°

This looks interesting, but one thing doesn't make sense to me.
I will assume his raw (8bit) data is OK. Translated 3D ignition map than looks like this: I added the bottom row from different table used just for idling. It looks too aggressive and seems that 4AGE idles at 16' BTDC. What i know, 4AGE idles at 12' BTDC. French guy results are conservative: How this looks to you guys ? |

Your first transition is equal to what I got aswell as Jeremy. Hence my comment before as I think as well it's very agressive. Either that or the flamefront in the stock engine realy progresses very slow.
Stock idle timing is indeed 16, at least on all stock 4age I've seen (this is with properly setting the base timing at 10 in diagnostic mode. Once the jumper is removed it goes up to 16 @~850rpm). PS: dug out the link I mentioned http://forums.club4ag.com/zerothread?id=74402 I posted the original transition Jeremy did in there as well. PPS: for what's it worth I think the agressive map is a good goal. One could lower it by a few degrees to be safe and then slowly uping the timing while tuning and see if it's doable without det. I might give this a shot on my current engine once I have my new engine around just in case something goes bang but this wont be before spring next year. AE86 ex-daily |
