Squeaking noise from engine

Hey guys, theres a terrible squeaking noise coming from my engine when it´s idling. Almost the same noise like a sliping disk brake.

When reving the engine, the squeaking leaves but comes back in idle.

Does anybody have an idea what it could be?

Loose or overtight belt?

So i just figured out that it´s also there while driving, but only when releasing the throttle and just letting it roll.

But sometimes it squeaks and sometimes it don´t

I´ll check the alternator belt tomorow. Can it also squeak when it´s too tight

Should i also check the timing belt - i actually thought that it can´t squeak because it can´t slip...

On the other hand i don´t think it´s the alternator belt, this would be louder.

It's more than likely a belt. If you push on the belt and it gives more than 2cm's it is to loose. It should only give about 1cm. If it is to tight It won't give. I'm assuming that this belt has been on for a while though, so it is more than likely loose. You can also pick up a product at your local parts store. It's a spray that removes the built up grease on the belts, but isn't corrosive enough to eat the belt itself. Here's a link n how to use it.

Well, the belt tension is ok as i expected. I overhauled the engine only a few months ago so this was supposed to be ok.

Used such a spray on my old winter beater, i´ll see if it helps here.

Could be a small air leak.
Unlikely but it would be worth checking the cambelt idler pulley.
