Not something you could feel unless your oem ones are shot. I replaced mine eventualy as they were 26years old and the rubber insulation started being brittle etc...

some general questions on the car i will buy
thanks for answers againSmile
Got some more questions,trying to set up my plans before i begin:

In beginning i was planning on swapping the original engine but now im not so sure anymore after some researching.(interesting read here http://www.ae92ownersclub.co.uk/forum/vi...?f=32&t=11Cool
Im wondering if it is worth it for me to do the change to high compression redtop or just plan with the redtop block.

After some questioning arround i could have a bit more freedom that i anticipated which when reading the bill sherwood bible (http://www.billzilla.org/4agmods.htm) would put me into 160-170 area.

This was an interesting line for me
A quick note - the 4AGE that I have in my AE-86 Sprinter has 288° cams, an aftermarket computer, 10.5:1 compression, and a small amount of head work done. It makes about 160hp with a completely stock bottom end. It ran to 8,500rpm without any problems.
so this is probably the upper limit of what i want.

Except for the cams/portwork and maybe another filter the rest discussed in previous parts from guide are already done to the car

I wonder if the line above will be able to set my criteria

*somewhat smooth idle, doens't have to be prefect but not like a rattlegunSmile
*since its an old car up to 3.5 co is allowed
*affordable,with that i mean i don't want to go the route of changing pistons,overboring,... that is too much for me.Again the line above looks like it can meet this or maybe a bit more

Yes indeed,he is writing good articles for engine tuning Smile
The car i have bought is a kouki levin from end 1986
The way i see it for now the routes i can take are:

<=256 oem ecu smooth idle
<=264 oem ecu not so smooth idle
<=272 aftermarket
<288 aftermarket other manifold needed

Not sure yet between current and high compression redtop
Alot of Contradiction in information in different articles.

IMHO if you are 'only' aiming at ~160hp improve what you have as this level is achievable with the low comp pistons too... modify the head and if you go for wilder cams (i.e. 288s) then you can still compensate the CR with a thinner headgasket (just make sure to still have sufficient squisharea min 0.8mm rather more if you have stock rodbolts as they tend to stretch a bit under high rpm)
