Nz Style in Australia
Hey guys, my names Rob, New Zealander living in Australia, showing them how its done aesthetically!

Thought I'd share my AE86's as I'm pretty happy with how they've come along so far.. Will keep it brief..

As you may be aware, ADM AE86s are poverty spec, 4ac, s series rear end etc.

First off I bought this 1984 "Toyota Sprinter", essentially one lady owner. Woman bought it from new, then let her son drive it who had no idea what it was. The guy I bought it off kept leaving notes on the windscreen, and eventually got a call and bought it. He didn't have it very long before being made redundant, didn't even get the chance to drive it as it wasn't legal, so sold it to me.

I bought the car from Melbourne, and drove it back to Brisbane, long long drive.

Anyway, from how it was to how it is now, many hours and dollars later.

10 mins after pick up

Very tidy condition, not much rust although I still managed to get messed around by a panelbeater, but it's all together and legal now.

As I didn't have a car it made keeping tabs on the car very difficult, but one day I had had enough and went to see where it was, pretty disappointed.

Definitely not as clean as it once was..

Chucked it in the work truck and took it to a mates, bought him a welder and a few other bits and he tidied it up for me

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Nz Style in Australia]

started putting a few bits on that I had bought

got it all legal and lowered it on some volk mesh

the rears were 14x8 -11 but the fronts were only 14x7 +2. I already had a pair of 15" Formula Mesh, 15x7.5 -8, managed to find another pair, 15x8 -14, so sold the Volks

Then last week I decided I was a bit over the fog light look, so chucked my zenki grille on.. I think it has made a massive improvement!

I picked up and engine for the car back home in New Zealand, am in the process of slowly trying to get it here, along with the many many other parts I have back home.

Specs are

20v silvertop bottom end, decked and balanced, TRD 0.8mm head gasket, 20v blacktop head, plained, mildly ported, multi angle valve grind, custom ground camshaft (290in, 300ex – 9mm lift), custom shims and valve springs. JimTune adjustable cam wheels, TRD silicone leads and platinum plugs. Blacktop 20v inlet manifold with T3 alloy trumpets.

12:1 compression, tuned on Gen1 V4 Link Computer
130kw (174hp) at the wheels, approx 200-205hp at flywheel with 390Nm torque to 8500rpm.

I’m pretty happy with that! Also picked up near new 16v 5 puk clutch, lightened 4.3kg 20v flywheel, and AE86 T50 gearbox with Jimtune short shift.

Not too happy with the redness of it all, but will get factory blacktop covers and make it look tidy

Along the way I came across another white one lady owner, again a 1984 Toyota Sprinter.. a mechanic bought it after the lady snapped the timing belt and decided she didn't want to spend money fixing it.

He bought it to restore for his son, but after 3 years he hadn't touched it, so I ended up buying it from him.

When I first saw the car

At my place

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Nz Style in Australia]

This is how it looked when I got it, fuckin mess! as if he had no intention of re-assembly

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Nz Style in Australia]

now, still needs a clean

The only plans so far for this one is to find a complete interior as this one is missing a few bits, and with the parts I have in NZ I will make it a panda Kouki Trueno.. but first I will use it as it is for daily driving until the other one gets the 20v

The reason I have so many parts in NZ is I owned this 1984 red panda Trueno.

When I first got it

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Nz Style in Australia]

Later

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Nz Style in Australia]

and before I left to Aus

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Nz Style in Australia]

unfortunately, before I left, I had given it to a friend who has a panel shop. He has now fled the country, and I have no idea where my car is now. Very disappointing, had it around 6 years, put a lot of money into it, and now it is gone.

It is reported stolen etc so I'm just going to concentrate on the 2 I have in Australia and hope one day it turns up.

Thanks for reading guys! Will keep this updated as things slowly progress
