Well it takes for ages to make them in the right shape , but I don´t have carpets so it needs to look half decent even tho its a race car... I´ve done it without the ribbing before and the result is just flexing and wobbling. All you need are different sized flat hammers, hammer with peens, vice and skills. I just hope this is the worst corner on my Corolla. I´ve already made 4 repair sections so far and I´m missing another 3-4. One of them will be the outer sill, thats going to be difficult... I think one of the main reasons why corollas are in generall very light it the metal! Even the sills are only 1,0mm thick, while most of the other stuff is just 0,7mm. No wonder once they start to rust it goes so fast...
Slow progress as the weather on the last weekends wasn´t helping at all. Seamsealed and painted the floorpan, refitted the cage, finished all brackets for the center console. Finally found a sidelight. Continued with the (never ending) sill, extended the inner skin, welded back the jacking reinforcement. I had to buy some new 1,2 mm thick sheet metal for the outer sill, this was the part I was showing the most respect for, difficult geometry and a lot of joints were it really needs to fit precisely to match the shape and look neath. After just 10-11 hours: I´ve booked Lydden Hill Open Pit Lane on the 18th August, giving me a deadline to fix, buy and fit a few more things. -finish the sill!!! in order to fit the door, wing, bumper and the sidelight -buy and fit rear coilovers -replace left inner tie rod -plumb in the hydro -install a muffler cause its just so loud at the moment... If that´s not enough there is allways rust, I honestly hope that the remaining areas are easier/ quicker to fix. Have you just recently moved to the UK or something, are you going to go to the Ace Cafe meet on the 11th of August? I know what you mean about a loud exhaust! I cant hold a conversation over 40mph! What did you about the line (vaccum hose i think) that runs into the throttle body from the standard intake arm when fitting the silicone arm? |
