Well I can understand where they are coming from and admire their dedication...its just not my kind of thing.
Anyway first I have to find myself a new windshield as the one in the car suddenly shattered while I was driving on the motor/freeway. I expect that temperature stress was the culprit. The whole windshield was just suddenly covered in small hairfractures, making it difficult to see through. Offcourse the KE25 windshield is nearly impossible to get hold of. They have to be ordered from Israel and cost mucho $$. Also if I wan't a replacement any time soon, I would have to pay 150GBP express shipping charges..... Luckily I might have found an OEM toyota windshield for sale here in the Netherlands. Its at the guy that has 5 or 6 old rolla's lying about that he wants to get rid off. Guess I'l be paying him a visit. I'll be sure to take a some pictures while I am there. If anyone else wants a project car. He has an KE-25 coupe inc all OEM replacement body panels. It wasn't that expensive if I remember correctly: between 1000 and 1500E. I think he also has several KE20's that sell for less. At 750kg stock or around 700kg stripped they fly with a 4A-GE. Quick update:
Found a used windshield for 75E the guy also has a brand new front valance (mine is VERY rusty) so thats great. Picking them up later this week. The rear axle seems to be quite a problem. Its a big hunk of rust that going to need a lot of work: new bearings all round, some cleaning of the ring and pinion etc etc. Good new for AE86 owners is that the TA22GT rear diff assy is exactly the same as the zenki AE86 LSD. Might not seem very promising, but there have been a couple GT axles floating about on marktplaats.nl The brakes are also crap. I'm not investing money in new drums so discbrakes will be fitted. This is just uncanny! Another car out there that has almost everything done to it, that I am going to do.....mind you it looks good!
Judging from the picture: Dropped a fair amount (front short stroked coilovers, rear custom leafs) Rota RB 13x8 ET5 rims TE27 Flares Chamionship white paintjob Everything else in near stock form (the "slim" bumpers, silver headlight trim etc etc Only thing I'll probably be adding is a chinspoiler. Rewinds are 14x7...I'm not sure about 14" rims for such a small car. The thought sure has crossed my mind. I think that the problems start in tire choice, not a lot of ordinary 14" tires will fit under the KE's body. With the 8" RB's I'm guessing that I'll probably get anything to "stretch fit".
Also, I kinda like the traditional minilite look slightly more then the rewinds. I'm kinda devided between these choices....all opnions are welcomed. A wheel to steer the front of the car A pedal to steer the rear |
