AE86 weights list
Righto,
Everyone knows that less weight in an AE86 is better. It's the welterweight punching above its weight right? But what exactly can you do about it and perhaps more importantly, what can't you do? When we go online and start looking we find lots of posts that suggest that a couple FRP panels and we're at 850kg's. Some people claim that low 700kgs are possible with a full cage and serious cutting of sheetmetal. Lets try and see if we as a community can try and get an idea of how serious we can take these claims. Over the years I've weighed some stuff as it went through my hands. Mostly suspension stuff for my models, but some other stuff too. Logic dictates that when we add up most of the important stuff we end up with the weight of the final car. What I'm going to do is post some tables with parts, weights and where applicable weight saved. Hope you guys will chime in with some measurements you made yourselves. Could gain a lot by data on lightened flywheels, and data on weights of OEM engine parts (alternator, std plenum/manifold, 20V ITBs, exhaust mani)
F20C can get down to 185kg with money thrown at lightweight parts, but difficult to do with that heavy transmission. 1UZFE weight taken from a picture of an actual 1UZFE hanging from a scale. Idiots without proof of lower weight do not have to apply, yes they are that heavy, no they are not made of fairy dust. 4AGE flywheel weights, mostly from Google (thanks Denso)

Body rear lights spare tire original seats original rear seat steering wheel OEM battery Engine wiring loom+ECU Body Wiring loom Levin headlights Trueno headlight mechanism Dashboard Gauge unit pedal box HVAC unit Front suspension Front cross member Front Lower Control arm Tension rods Tie rods Steering column Steering rack brake booster brake master cylinde Engine ITBs Header (OEM, TRD etc) alternator Airfilter etc clutch master cylinder Lots of parts still to do, many kg's to add. Do your bit for the community!

Thanks for posting these weights, it really shows not only what
is possible but also that the work and cost is worth it. Getting on for 100kg saved overall including interior parts and underseal etc ? An analogue brain in a digital World |

i can measure some parts for you tomorrow
 front seats,back seats,hood,door,fenders front,... I remember the front seats weights a whooping 22kg+- a piece :o Spare wheel is arround 16.8 kilo .... the tar on the inside of the car weights arround 20,5 kg. I dont remember the sunroof weight but it is more than 5 kilo i think. more tomorrow |
