All I should know about suspension before any modification
Hi I'd like to gather all AE86 suspension data in this topic.
For me because Im creating driving simulator, video game if You prefer. And for all who want to consciously modify their suspension for different purposes. For good reproduction AE86 handling properties in my simulator I need more than 5500 parameters. (This sounds more dangerous than it is in reality.) At the beginning I need to locate all the joints, this will determine the height of chassis swing points, and provide real changes in suspension geometry during in game operation. For this reason, I am looking for technical drawings of AE86 suspension. It would be great if anyone here could help or share stuff like this. I'm also looking for dyno graphs of stock shock-absorbers and bumpstops. I need to determine length of wheel bump and rebound traveling distances. Spring rate of stock stabilizers ... ... and many, many more. (all front and rear of course) Because Im overviewing our forum some time now, I let my self to invite few valuable people by PM's to discuss this issue. Of course I hope that all You will contribute to the discussion, and together we'll be able to determine all this. validated data: ----------------- STOCK CAR -------------- ride height: Unfortunately I do not have opportunities to associate it with the thresholds, however I managed to establish the ground clearance is 150mm (according to Autocar w/e 21 April '84) |

good start here
http://www.aeu86.org/viewtopic/ae86/t/12...sc/start=0 and the people who post it except me i gave up on doing it myself and let somebody else do it they took the weight of each corner and the lowering point to where the axle doen'st slide to the left. bilstein and koni all internals changed(valves,...) thats all i know the bilsteins came from a porsche |

All I should know about suspension before any modification
Thanks mate, I know this topic, I read it several times.
Its very helpful of course, but unfortunately doesnt contain all the information I need. And I'd like to focus on stock car for now. |

Sorry, but chances are slim you'll ever find this info. I have some, but things like bumpstop rates are unavailable for 99% of cars on this planet, let alone an oldie like ae86

All I should know about suspension before any modification
First I am very happy to have U here NoHachi. I'm counting on your knowledge a lot.
Of course You're right, some of this data is almost impossible to find. However, sometimes they can be measured, weighed or determined empirically in a different way. Therefore request - for a little bit more optimism. I'd like to start from what we have... I have springs stiffness rates for stock streed car and 2 TRD variants racing/rally group A. (which can help to develop thread cited above) But I have to scan these tables to post them here first. I also have diagram of ae86 chassis and rear axle (need to scan them too) The most wanted for now, are suspension drawings. Lets forget about the bumpstops for the moment, and lets see what else do we have. |

you can start with chassis specs....
I also found this.... in Alldata section is an overview of the steering, suspension, axles, tires, and brakes available on the 1984 to 1987 model years. All I should know about suspension before any modification
Fantastic, thanks a lot.
Part of those materials I planned to scan... ... but it seems that I won't have to. I have a question, are these stabilizers solid or pipe type ? And do You know their spring rate (preferably on wheels) ? |

They are solid.
I assume you will calculate the wheelrates from dimensions, have them somewhere. Do you need springrate in roll or single wheel bump? A wheel to steer the front of the car A pedal to steer the rear |

Yes if You have dimensions and blueprints it will be very easily calculate the wheel rates.
And both spring rates would be welcome. |
