Got a bit more done today.

Filled the gear box oil which is the easiest job in the world on an AE86 as you just pour it through the hole where the gearlever sits. Then bolted up the gearstick and the surround:

Now with gearstick and centre console back in place. Interior now complete if absolutely filthy from being in the workshop for the last 20 months:

Connected the battery and voila:

Although in this pick I'd forgot to push the alarm button so no ignition light. When I did, though it did turn over, just. This is not bad for a battery that's been sitting for so long!

Everything is on except for the exhaust manifold which needs wrapping. I have some new studs coming from Toyota too.

In this pic I had just put the oil in;

Now I realize why this is one of the coolest ae86`s in Europe (imho).
Whereas most of us convert to SR/F20C/Rotary/biggenericengine (imo), or 20v (me included) the owner of this car obstinately sticks to 16v single throttle body 4A-GE without going all crazy on mods Big Grin

A bit too much underpower, sure, but it`s a basic and usually reliable engine, very inspiring Smile

Thanks and LOL! I'm not sure about it being cool!

It is running HKS 256/264s and has a bit of polishing around the inlet and exhaust ports.

Let's face it, it was never going to be a quick car.

The AE86 is alive!

Here's the proof:

Very fitting that my GT gave my AE a helping hand to bring it back to life:

Yep, just a few more jobs to do, then it's ready.

In terms of getting it started I had forgotten a connector which powers the ECU from the loom. Once I'd figured that out we then had fuel and ignition, but as when it fired it slowed the turnover of the engine down. We re-set it to TDC and I took the dizzy off and made a good guess at getting the rotor arm pointing at number one.

Then the moment I turned the key it ran straightaway. The idle was going up and down, but this was quickly traced to a vaccuum hose on the idle up that hadn't been connected. Once we did that, it ran so smooth. Smile

It is a real relief it's up and running again and there really isn't much to do get it through the MOT. We've decided that Mark will be the custodian of the AE86 and he is going to use it through the summer.

A big thanks must go to Si for all his bearding help and Tom for doing the build so meticulously well. Though when he repained the crank pulley he covered the timing marks!
