If you use a trd gasket make sure head and block are 100% flat or you will have trouble

Cheers Dieter, I'll look into having the head checked for true-ness as well.
Don't want to waste a good gasket/time.

yeah Smile
you need to bring both head and block to machine shop if you want to use a trd gasket.
I know someone who just did the head and it was not good,no forgiveness in the trd gasket

Thanks for that Smile
I'll have them checked against ground stock and then take it from there.

Don't think my mechanic has the head off for cracks yet.

She runs Smile

After a slightly embarrassed mechanic, we found out the original head was drilled for the home made water relocation kit used.....new engine obviously wasn't *fail*

So, old head was cleaned, checked and then fitted again and I'm a happy Matt, runs very well Smile

Just a couple of pics from when we were working on it.

New engine has a cover Smile

Hi Pack,

On the back of the head or to radiator?

I would strongly recomend going for a tried and tested kit from the likes of Sam Q (I'll likely be investing for my built engine) as I've had a few problems with the bodge my lines are Sad

I thought he's page said it's included in the kit? Anyway drop an e-mail to perfectrun.jp with the part number for the RS Chita outlet and they'll ship it to you (the can get prettymuch everything as long as it's JDM). I import everything I need from Japan through them, 99% of the cases it's the cheapest option for new parts incl. original Toyota parts.

I checked my speedo error, sitting off by roughly +15km at 120k.

I'm now at a bit of a turning point of what I do about engine rebuild and have fallen to 3 options:
1. Rebuild 20v as High Comp/High Rev NA - Expensive
2. Rebuild 20v as fully built (reliable) Turbo ~ 220bhp with scope for more - More Expensive
3. Buy 16v and build as turbo with used turbo kit and GZE rods/crank - Cost effective

Anyone got any suggestions/experience?
