valve tick on cylender two intake

Purchaced a rebuilt 4age for pretty cheap. 500 miles on the rebuild only problem is that is has valve tick on cylender two intake. Has anyone had this problem on their 4age and what did you find was the cause (bad lifters, bent valves, etc.)

I have done bottom end assembly but I have never worked on a top end before so any help is much appreciated!

If the compression is good, check the valve clearance. The
valves can tick if the clearance is too great.

Clearances.... no tighter than is the first number, no looser than is the second number




Are you absolutely sure its a valve? The injectors make a fair amount of ticking noise....

Unfortunately I cant tell if its the injectors as I bought the engine by inteslf out of the car.

Is there a special tool to measure the the clearance?

The guy whom I purchaced the engine said when he rebuilt the head he reused the valve springs so maybe they just need to be replaced.

OK! Finally!
You've got no idea at all about anything except what a seller told you about a 'valve tick'!
Yes, it is possible that a spring/s is broken.
This could be anything, anywhere.
Check it ASAP, BEFORE starting or turning over or even moving at all.

I havent gotten my feeler guage set in the mail yet so I have not been able to check the clearance yet.

I trust this guy enough to believe his opinion. He is a regular on club4ag and currently has 2 hatches and a coupe running nicely. But I will be careful with it and will tear down the head before installing it in my car.
