Hey guys,

Since my last engine rebuild i've made 1000km's

My engine ended up pretty fine and i already tested it at Circuito Estoril back in September.

Guys on the track said the engine was a bit smokey, well i was having 120º temperatures on Oil....

Of course the engine had a bit of oil consumption....

The issue here is on the road... driving normally, oil temp at 95/100º people say that when i'm lifting my foot and pressing the pedal the car smokes a bit...

Im with a 10W40 millers CFS oil and i didn't changed my piston rings.....

I'm pretty sure that because the engine was not used for a long time i have the rings affected....
Is the car regularly a bit smokey all the times?

Thanks

If you didnt change the piston rings what sort of rebuild was it? Your chances are pretty good its the piston rings. Did you pull the pistons out of the block? Blue smoke on lift off throttle could also be valve steam seals, in case they werent changed...

I changed all the gaskets only...

The cylinders were in so good shape... and because it was looking so good i didn't want to mess with it.
Well... now i think they needed a change....

I didn't pull the pistons out... just looked at the bore and because i had the factory marks and all seemed OK

It's not a big deal... the car is just a bit smokey sometimes....

To me, that points more to valve stem seals then to rings.

I'll have to check that... maybe the stem seals aren't properly placed... Or somehow managed to move from their spots..

I had the same,
Changed over to 20w50 what was recommended by someone from irland.
Alot of them use it there (millers).
And that solved my problem.
Hopefully you some use of it.
This is the oil btw.

Ok now it's official... Something is not right with my engine....

When driving and leaving the gas pedal, just after some time when i press it again the car smokes alot....

Also when shifting from 3rd or 4th gear to 2nd for example i also saw alot of smoke....

Small baffles when shifting gears.....

I think my valve stem seals are bad..... or my piston rings gave up..... Weird because my car wasn't smoking....

What causes the smoke when leaving and pressing the gas pedal?

Had the same problem with my 20v engine, replaced stem seals, didnt help, then I've changed the piston rings and that solved the problem. It looked to be the oil control rings that were stuck.

Thats the same i had and now its gone with the 20w50 oil.
Try it before you open the engine.
