Adam's volvo 242 nonsense
Hey!

I thought i will start a new thread. So, a few years passed aftrer i sold the hachi to a new owher, and actually made profit on it of around 10%, i was just using my 1991 volvo 244 GL turbo ( that i coverted from 2.0 N/A to 2.3 turbo obviously) for daily duties, and i received a message on facebook from a friend back in Lithuania with a link to our online car marketplace and a note - Who's the first to buy, me, or you? Big Grin

And then the shit got real!!

I will upload some pictures later, but the story of the car is this...

It's a 1981 Volvo 242 DL, 2.3 carbed and 4 speed manual box.

In the 1999 the guys father that sold the car to me bought it off a lorry that came from Sweden. Then he drove it for a few years, did a couple of rallies in it and when the MOT/tech inspection ran out parked in the garage in 2002... And then i saw the advert on the net that my friend sent me and bought it in 2015!!!! :O Yes, 13 years in the garage!

But it has alot of bad things!! RUST, that's the most common thing in cars i have bought... Remember that Levin i had? Big GrinBig Grin Well, that's a bit better!

Anyway, that's what i got!

I'll update this from time to time when i get time, but as of now it's stored in one of the garages (yes, i have lived up to a good chance to rent a garage from the local council and also have a double garage at a place where i live) nearby, waiting for the garage at my house to free up so work can start and progress can be made!

Well, pics are coming whenever i can pull my finger out and upload them somewhere...

As of now the car is partly missing the front end because i have sold the engine and gearbox to a friend, and all the front end is in the boot of the car.

I think that's it for now.

Adam

P.S

It's cool to see people are still keeping the hachis going! Damn i miss mine!!

Wink

Hey!

Here it is then...

I already took it apart, just because i needed to take the engine and gearbox out as i sold it.

So yeah, here it is haha...

For now it's just stored in one of the garages i rent from the council, so it's all dry and safe, but soon i will bring it home so i can take it all apart and start investigating the bad bits.

Looks great! Thumbs up!
So you're going to swap the 2.3 turbo from the 244 into the 242? Tongue

Hey dude. The 244 GL is no more as i sold it a few years ago. Yes, i have very late b230fk block and also i got a 1990 b234f cylinder head (16v), and so on...

Also, i want to get rid of the solid rear axle and i want to replace it with a complete rear suspension from a Lexus ls400. It's a fully independent suspension that can easily work with 700 hp.

People tell me i'm crazy lol... (queen)

Yeah, it is a bit interesting. I want to build a perfect street car that would have most creature comforts etc, So i can use it on the road when i get bored of my usual shitboxes.

It has loads of rust, as i stated, but well, nothing's impossible... Damn, i already heard someone say that in some other post... Big Grin

I want to keep itas close to standard looking as possible, full interior, all sound deadening etc, but a tiny bit of myself haha...

I already had a few really big thoughts about it all and how it will need to turn out, so it is happening!

Ok, i'll try to chuck some pics up of the car as it sits now...

So that's the spare engine i got, a b230fk - 2.3 Litre, low pressure turbo, 130k miles and came from an Automatic 940 that was running 0.4 bar of boost... Big Grin

That's how it looked before the engine and gearbox got ripped out of it
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Adam's volvo 242 nonsense]

And then i ruined it all...

It's good that the whole front end unscrews
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Adam's volvo 242 nonsense]

The engine bay isn't that bad, just a hole where the battery used to be has a hole in the rail...

And then it was out... And that's how it stands for now...

So yeah, now it's waiting time for the 242 as my garage at home is occupied with my v70 to finish replacing the bushes in the back and then it's all going to be a GO!

Cheers

Wow! That's a lot of rust to tackle, but certainly not impossible to do!
