Color choices

I have been looking at your colour more closely and I think it has potential. Take a look at the colour of pazza's car, looks nice and is similar to what you have. The trick to having a good looking car is choosing one scheme and sticking to it, not so much the colour.

Plusses when sticking to the original colour:
Inside and outside match: looks better and is a deffinate bonus should the car become a classic some day. Missed spots (wheelwells, doorjams etc) are far less obvious.
You don't have to have your carpapers changed ($$)
You have to do less preparation to the car.
You don't have to go through the whole process of primering, sanding etc etc. This means you save money on the primer and the paint guy can concentrate immediately on painting lots of layers of coloured paint and possibly a couple of layers of clearcoat. The endresult will be a top paintjob in the original colour instead of a mediocre one in another colour. It should also have more of a "deep" effect.

Put the money you save on expensive pearl etc paints in a fund to finance a set of dark watanabe or konigs.

Those are the reasons I am thinking about original color or atleast a shade of blue. Often the inside of the car looks slightly off tone because they dont use clearcoat or such.

Changing papers isn't a problem, had to do that before aswell, dutch government doesn't care much anymore, they use to before, not anymore. So its something like 10 euro cost or something

Hmm ok,

I would just take the route that leads to the best quality paint job. Thats what really makes cars stand out. If the same quality can be had with different colours, then it doesn't really matter.

I'm not afraid of the paintjob not being of good quality, I know the guy who's painting it very well and I trust his skills.

Thats not 100% what I meant. There is only so much you can do in one day. If that has to include more sanding/prepping/primering etc and less painting, colorsanding, clearcoating etc. Then the end result could be different. I'm sure your paint guy knows these things best though, they usually know which colors etc they can get a good result from. Ask him for advice, I would be curious as well.

Very true indeed. Tomorow I'll be discussing color options with him. Depending on the color I choose the workload will be different and the cost will go up.

Not everything is done in one day btw, only the painting. For most of the prepping work we don't need the spray booth. Thats the ticket, he can only use the spray booth when its available since he does this in his own time for me. And in the end, if I really want something very different the price will probably just go up

I think in the end it'll end up being a deeper shade of blue and I'll keep pushing him to do it 2 tone for me

Paint it in red....its great....

I always saw AE86´s in grey or white here in germany.

I only know one red AE86 ...it was original red by Toyota.

The 86 you see was the old car of a friend...the pic is from the year 1998

Red is beautifull too, but it's a disaster as far as maintenance is concerned...unless you use a clearcoat offcoarse.
It may not be very average in germany, but my guess is about half of all dutch 86's are red.
